Has anyone heard of this cemetery. I can't find it and some relatives were buried there in 1894. Just trying to find the cemetery and where records might be.
Thanks

I don't live too far from Camden, NJ. I will try the County Clerks office, and the Camden Dieosis (sp?) for more information.

Thanks for the help. I found out that St. Patrick's Cemetery is on the site of the new St. Joseph's Church in Camden. I don't know where the bodies were moved. I was told by a librarian to check with Trenton Diocese because they were now in charge. I guess the bodies went there but I would think there would be records in Camden. If you come across any info in this regard I would appreciate help. I have called this priest in Trenton three times and have never received a call back so need to try another way around the situation. I have the death dates of two of the children buried there but not the third so really wanted this information.
Thanks for replying to my question.

Kathy,
Hello. I too have relatives in the now long gone St. Patrick's cemetery. But what a mess. I have done quite a bit of work trying to get a list of who was there and a list of where they went. I know some of the story. some of the people were moved in 1918 and the rest in 1952 to Calvary cemetery in cherry hill. BUT - calvary only has a certain number of names that were moved. they lost the rest! isnt that nice? let me find the number for calvary. you might be one of the lucky ones. calvary cem. and maus. 856-663-3345. they have a data base and will tell you over the phone if they see the names you are looking for. i'm glad i found your message. i have been searching for any information on st patricks for 2 years now. also - neither trenton nor camden diocese says that they have any record of anything related to old st patricks. i have established a rapport with a sister cathrine thybalt at trenton and she told me that trenton turned over all the records they had to camden at some time in the past. i think when camden diocese came into being. so nobody nows anything. i have always wondered if everyone in that cemetery was actually moved or what. so recently, my cousin who lives in mantua, nj, saw on the news that some people were doing some digging at this st joseph's pro cathedral (2907 Federal) and found some headstones from old st. patricks!! let me give you the number of the camden diocese: 856-756-7900. call and see if any of the stones they found belong to you. i will get my emails from home and find the woman's name who was responding to my cousin's inquiry's into this headstone discovery. the news reported that when they disinterred the people from old st pats in '52, they merely used the headstones to "backfill" the holes that were left. wow. i have emailed my friend at the trenton diocese, the nj state historical society and the camden historical society and informed them of this situation. this, as i suspected, is a mess and some kind of "cover-up" - pardon the pun. my cousin is looking into this and will bring in the media if she finds out there are any other abnormalities. i'm in california, and not able to do too much. I have scouted calvary though without much luck. let me tell you who i have there - maybe you'll recognize them. michael fitzgerald 1867-1900, spouse annie toohey fitzgerald 1867-1896, edward j fitzgerald 1862-1895 and some children of Patrick and Margaret Fitzgerald Clark. Michael and Annie Fitzgerald are one set of my great grand parents. There maybe other Toohey's in there as well. I sure wish I could put together a list of who was there. anyway. that's a lot of info for you to digest. let me know what happens! we'll find them yet...good luck -

sincerely,

brian pondo

Kathy,

We struck out with the headstones they dug up. But, I was wondering if you would need some Camden or Philadelphia "Fitzpatricks" from some city directories that I have. When I printed out the Fitzgeralds, sometimes I get partial or all of the Fitzpatricks too. I dont have all the years, but Camden goes from 1894 to 1917, Philadelphia has some partials spanning 1872 - 1920. Interested?

Brian

Iam looking for relatives from St. Joseph's (Polish) in Camden and just saw the information about St. Patrick's Cemetery in East Camden. I have lots of relatives buried in Calvary and also St. Joseph's Cemetery in Chewslanding. This may answer some of the questions that I had in not finding some of my relatives. My relatives are the Pierzynski Family from Mechanic St. and Atlantic Ave which is right around St. Joe's Polish. Here is an excerpt.."St. Joseph's of East Camden was incorporated April 24, 1893. Nine month later a wooden structure was raised on the eastern end of the tract of land at the junction of Westfield Ave and Federal St. Aportion then in use as St. Patrick's Cemetery was the burial place for many early Polish settlers in Camden.
If you see any Pierzynskis on your list of names of people buried there, please let me know
Kathy

The Camden County Historical Society has some records online. I found 1899-1914. I found some of the people I was looking for and they were buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The deaths are alphabetical, then by years within the letter. Hard to search.

graves were relocated to calvary cemetery in cherry hill, nj in the 1920s to make room for construction of st. joseph's church - east camden. just was at calvary to find grave of an ancestor and the caretaker indicated there were also a number of remains that were unidentified when making the transfer. anyone can get more details by contacting the calvary office during the week.
