Might anyone out there know if there is a cemetery located on the grounds of the Village for Epiletics in Skillman, Somerset County? I know that the state now owns the facility and property but questions as to a cemetery are not answered. I am looking for the grave of Ada M. Schroeder who died in 1917 while she was a patient. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cindy,

Just saw your post. There are two cemeteries for the Village for Epileptics,Montgomery Twp, Somerset County, N.J.
1 - Sacred Grounds - Upper Cemetery
2 - Sacred Grounds - Lower Cemetery

Upper Cemetery was used from 1904 to December 1960 ( about 467 interments )

Lower Cemetery was used from December 1960 to June 1990 ( 210 interments, 174 Christian and 36 Jewish )

John and anyone else reading this:

I called the reference librarian at that library and she referred me to another woman who said the information is not a library resource and is not available for lookups. She does not want people calling the library about this. (She asked me to post this message here.) She said the place to call would be the Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey, 429 River View Plaza, Trenton, NJ 08611, Phone: (800) 336-5843.

The NJ State Archives has some records from the State Village for Epileptics at Skillman listed on their website at:
