There is a site called find a grave online if you know the name-county in Nd you can find what cemeteries they have listed in Nd.
they list a Mount View Cemetery in ND it is
in Towner county. In this cemetery are are only 12 listed. no photos. Don't know if that is all that is in that cemetery.

I would find a library in Rolla or Cando ND. Next, try cities of Devils Lake or Rugby. If you can't go there in person, at a slow time of day call the library. The head librarian might be able to look up county records for Towner County. Depending on settlement of the area, there also might have been an obituary. The librarian should also know about what newspapers were in circulation in that era. I don't remember when the person you seek died - 1910 or was it later. I think that part of ND was settled around 1900.

Do you know the county or city or township, or general area of ND where this cemetery might be located. That would be a start. Next find out what county and find out the county seat for local gov't. They should have a public library in the city. The library might list all cemeteries in the area, even century old ones that are no longer in use. Another try would be to contact a Catholic or Lutheran church in a city where you know your ancestors lived. They might have records of that cemetery.

If you have the two cities where you think he might have died google libraries in Hettinger ND and Gillstrap. I doubt Gillstrap has a library as I have never heard of it, but google the nearest larger cities to Gillstrap, especially the county seat(gov't offices). Those areas were very rural in 1909 so also try the Bismarck and Minot public libraries for old obituary indexes. They might have them by county. If you live in ND, go there or just call the main librarian and explain your plight. The libraries should have an obit index, cross referenced by name and cemetery. I used this method to find ancestral graves for my friend, and all she had was the names, county where they lived, and roughly the year died. It took me less than 15 minutes to get copies of the obituaries and location of the cemeteries of more than 6 of her relatives in the eastern ND area. The next best method would be to contact Catholic and Lutheran churches in those towns and tell them what you are looking for. Most pioneers in ND were Catholic or Lutheran, and the churches would know the exact locations of 100 yr old cemeteries and might even know who is buried in each. It sounds like he might have moved to Edmonton which is why he is not in the census, so if you don't have luck, do the same search up there. Edmonton is much larger than Hettinger though.

Do you know her family's religion and where she died (was it at or near Bowman, ND?). These ND towns are so small you might contact a Catholic or Lutheran (whatever the faith) church in Bowman ND. If they don't have records, at the very least they should be able to direct you to the county library (is it in the city of Bowman?) and there you should be able to find her obituary. The obit usually listed cemetery or city where interred. If you are not living in ND you might ask the librarian for help. Bowman is a very small town, probably under 700 people. All it took was 15 minutes in a library to locate ancestral graves for my friend who lives in Georgia. She had only the year died and names of her ancestors and the cities where they lived.

I am trying to find a death record or date for Edward Root Hillis born 1851 in Seneca Co., Ohio and died probably after JAN 1909 but before 1910 since I cannot find him in the 1910 census. He was working in Hettinger. He lived in Valley City, Barnes Co., ND in the 1900 census. He last visited Ohio in JAN 1909
and his sister wrote down his present address was Gillstrap, SD but would be moving to Edmonton, Canada. As far as I know he never made it to Canada.
And I think Gillstrap, SD is Gillstrap, ND?

What cemeteries are in or near Hettinger or Gillstrap?
Hi i'm trying to find any burial info about my grandmother who died in the early 1950s. She is not listed as buried with my grandfather George Link in a cemetery in Mercer Co. I believe she may have died in Medina ND in Stutsman Co. There is a Link Cemetery in Mercer Co. I don't know if that is just a cemetery with that name or a burial ground mainly for Link family members. My father passed many years ago and I don't know any of the few Links that might be in the area. If you have any info I'd be interested to hear it. Thank you, Bruce Link
blinky1000@msn.com

Jamestown Cemetery,Stutsman County, Jamestown, ND

I'm wondering if anyone out there can help shed some light on the Jamestown Cemetery in Jamestown, ND. My GG Grandfather was to have been buried there. His death date was Aug. 10, 1917. His name was Daniel P Thornton and he may have had a Civil War marker at one point in time. Yesterday, I found a name listed in the "Old Death Index" for Stutsman County a listing for a "Thonston", "David?". It has his correct death date and also his state of birth which was "PA". It also had "State Hosp., Stutsman" which is where he passed away from a stroke and also lists "Book 1/page 126". Can anyone out there look this up for me? I am sure this is our Daniel and we have been looking for him for many, many years. Today, my cousin, was told that the burials of Jamestown Cemetery were moved and reinterred elsewhere when the current Middle School was built. Anyone heard of this? I cannot find anything to do with this on the internet. Thank you for your help in advance! My email for direct contacting is "linda.english1@gmail.com". Daniels place of residence was in Sargent County. The rest of his family is buried in the Milnor Cemetery, Milnor, ND.

His wife Susanna, their daughter Alta & a son, Lloyd, are buried in the Evangelical Assoc. Cemetery. I have photos of the graves which appear to be in a family plot.

Alfred died in 1911, I have not been able to locate his place of burial.
Kari, I live in Valley City. Do you know which cemetary you need pictures of? Woodbine is IN Valley City. Hillside and St. Catherine's are just outside city limits. There are also some outlying ones and small township cemetaries. Let me know. I'd be happy to send you some this summer once the snow is off.
