A suggestion - you can contact a local boy scout troop and they may clear the cemetery or sometimes the local county jail or state prison will put prisoners to work on jobs like this.

As repunzal says, a Boy Scout troop may be a good idea or even some teenagers with a local church as well. I'd first contact the land owner to see if they would be willing to help, and also with any of the area African-American churches in the area as well. If you can determine some of the descendants in the area, that would be a great project fo rthem to do.

Also, get one of the feature writers of the local newspapers to do an article on it with photos for a Sunday edition of the paper. That usually brings out people who are related.

BTW, the county commissioners are required to ensure the preservation of the cemetery under NC laws. They do not have to maintain it, but they have to protect it from being destroyed.

Thank You.
I do not reside in North Carolna
My ancestors and parents were born and raised in Kinston.
My parents migrated north before I was born, while doing family tree research in the area cemetary was shown to me. It is located on private property and I had hoped to find the grave site of my great grandfather since he worked and spent his whole life there. The owner of the property also spent his whole life there and was kind enough to show it to me and he was in his 70's. His parents or grandparents might have known my great grandfather
I took the picture and wanted to share the information thinking it may be helpful to some one bushes, weeds and over grown greenary along with a few scratches prevented me from gaining full acess to the site but I did note one marker with the Sutton name and hope to gain permission and be better prepared to vist next summer

Did you ever visit the kinston cemetery? If yes was it the Nobles cemetery? I have been looking for the Nobles cemetery & the Moore Cemetery, because have relatives there. If you are looking for someone in Kintson Cedar Grove is a very old cemetery. I have a lot of relatives there. I was to visit one day.
