jim; my gg gf was elisha f thompson, death cert says folks are elizabeth fields and william thompson, and was born in cherokee, nc. from what my grandmother had gleaned from elisha, he was 3/4 cherokee, and remembered indian children coming into his home at night to just look around. he was born 1829 per his death cert; he also had said he was in the confederate army with his brother, and one of them was a drummer, and one was a fifer; oddly enough, in later years, he had 2 dogs, named FIFE and DRUM!
he also had a first family that was raised, when he became involved with my gg gm lucreasa jane lambert. she had been orphaned early on, and she went to stay with one family, and her brother with another family. i found her in the 1860 census living in murphy nc with a r g mounce family, who was a merchant, and she was a laborer. from what i have found online, i believe her mother was also named lucreasa mounce, and married a lambert. i found them in tn, and oddly enough, the mother had a baby, and died shortly thereafter...that would leave poor mr lambert widowed and with 2 small children to raise. i really do not know what happened to lucreasa's brother, but she thought that someone had said the family he lived with and he went out west for gold and was never heard from again. now i digress, and get back to where elisha and lucreasa get together----(and i say that because i could never find prrof of their marriage, or the death of his wife, or her death). they did have a baby, betty, in north carolina. then one night elisha came home and told gg lucreasa, they had to leave, and they packed all they could into a quilt and took off for kentucky and ended up on adair co, ky. he had told stories that gm lucreasa and the baby rode on their cow, and he walked. we do not know why they fled their home, but that the "law" did come into ky to look for them, but they hid out and finally the law left. my father always thought it was perhaps war related; or perhaps his first wife's family was mad over his taking up with another woman.
anyway, if any of this sounds remotely familiar, or you know any of this, would like to share what you have to offer. thanks so much! debbie troxell hayes
