hello-
I am looking for any information regarding the John F. Delaney buried in the Carlton Cementery north of Florence, MT. He was born 5/21/42 and died 12/15/09.

I believe he is the same man who first platted LoLo and was the postmaster in 1888. There is also a reference to a shoot out at a Valentine Dance above John Delaney's store where Edmund Trudeau was shot and killed by Herman Parsons.

As I said I am looking for any information on this man. Thank you so much! LIZ

If you use your Google Search Engine, and type in "John Delaney, Lolo Montana," you will get several "hits." The link below is to the MTGenWeb Archives, also a search engine. only type in the surname of "Delaney."

http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mt/mtfiles.htm

You should also check out the Bureau of Land Management/Government Land Office site to see in which counties he claimed land for mining or homesteading. Go to the following link and type in "Montana" and then the surname and given name. Then click on "Legal Land Description" for particulars:

Hope this helps.

According to "Names on the Face of Montana," he was indeed the postmaster at Lolo. Unfortunately, no further info on him is given.

Hello, I am Dennis Delaney and my great grandfather is John F. Delaney. He was the original founder of Lolo. John is buried in Lolo, however his grave site miss spelled the name to read Delany (no e) but the same man. Died 1909. My father is a native Montana man and remembers much about Lolo. He is in good at health at 90 years old, living near me in Kirkland WA.

my grandmother Lilian was the first school teacher.

I am very excited to get the message. I am from Wisconsin and I think that John F. is a brother to my ggg grandfather. Henry (Hank) Delany, Poynette, I have been to Lolo and seen the grave, I think it is spelled the correct way, since the wisconsin family kept the Delany ( no e) spelling :)

If you would not mind, could you please email me at delanysearch@yahoo.com and possibly compare notes. I have a picture of John F. Delany that I got out of a history of Lolo that if you do not have I will scan and get it to you.

Please email... Liz Delany
