During your look-ups, if you run across any Alabama Civil War Soldiers who are buried in Mississippi, I would be most appreciative of your sending on that info. Our current listing may be viewed at www. fightingjoewheeler.net. Look in the upper left hand corner for the graves registration and click there.

Many thanks,

mark

If you do free look-ups I would appreciate help. I need info on the Harris family of Clarksdale,Ms. Is that central? Most of the family was buried in Bobo,Ms. at Mt. Moriah church. I would like a listing for everyone in the family in that cemetary if possible. Thanks.

Mark, J J Dean is buried in the McLaurin cemetery in Forrest County Mississippi. I have a muster slip for 17 Alabama Infantry company B but his Confederate pension application says Company H under Captain McMullen. Also on the pension application; He resided in Conecuh County when he enlisted in March of 1863. The commander of the 17th Infantry is listed as Col Murray.
He served until May 1865.

David,
My paternal grandparents, Hampton Hilliard Smith, b. 1833/34 AL and Margaret Luticia/Letitia (Pearson) Smith, b. 1851, AL lived in MS around Moselle, in Jones Co., and may be buried in that area or around Lauderdale or Forrest Co. I found Margaret with her daughter Minnie and Tom Merritt on the 1910 census there in Lauderdale Co. My father and his first wife, Ella Odom, were also listed on the 1910 census there in Meridian, MS in Lauderdale Co. I also found them listed in the 1910 City Directory. I have not located the gravesites of Margaret Luticia nor Hampton's burial places. Margaret was listed as a widow on the 1910 census and maybe Hampton died there in AL in Talladega or Childersburg, AL prior to their moving to MS. Hampton was a Confederate soldier who was with Hilliard's Legion the 59th Regiment. The Merritts later moved to Miller Co., Arkansas, Texarkana where I found them in 1920. If you could locate my grandparents' gravesites, I would be most appreciative. I do have relatives, a half nephew, a son of Preston Smith, Tarver Smith who owns T. Smith Tractor Trailer Sales and Western Store there in Hattiesburg, MS with whom I have contact. My father was J. C. Smith, b. 1891 in AL. You may contact me at zenogo1@yahoo.com. Thank you. Any suggestions that you have to aid my search for these grandparents final resting place will be most appreciated. I live in Redmond, WA. Zenna Smith

David,

I hope you are still available to help.

I am looking for death information for a Robert J. Prather. born 11 Mar 1838 in either Indiana or Kentucky; and died 31 July 1878 in Brandon, Rankin, MS as per "Five Typical Scotch Irish Families" by Mary Craig Shoemaker. I have attached excerpts from that book with this Lookup request: in it it's labeled as Gen 05.

I was hoping the book you have "Rankin County Cemetery Records [1824-1980]" would have a Robert Prather in it's listing, and what cemetery he was buried in (and any more information).

Can you please look this up for me? If he's there, I will order the book so I can get a copy of the title page, and the page which has his information on it.

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Bill Jennings
