Kessler Cemetery, a cemetery in Easton, MO. has been abandoned by the Catholic Church and is in deep disrepair.
The last time it was cleaned was six years ago.
A few relatives and I went out to clean this year. I took
pics of tombstones and labeled them the best I could. There is mis-spellings on some..etc due to the deteriotation of the stones.

Its really a shame the cemetary is in such shape. Theresa Kessler was my paternal grandfathers mother. She was married to mathias kessler. i've found out that when she died he gave all the children to relatives to raise. then he went off to the Klondike terr.

My great-great grandmother Anna Mallen and my great-great uncle James Mallen are buried in this cemetery. There isn't even an access road to get to this cemetery. You have to go across private property to get to it. My brother visited the cemetery a couple of years ago and he said it was not easy to get to it. This is really a shame that the catholic church abandoned this cemetery. WHY? This is so disrespectful to the faithful catholics buried there. Can something be done? Gennell Mallen West

Judy,
My name is Jeff Tigges and our property is right next to the Kessler cemetery. I actually took some people out there today and I'm pretty sure I saw a sebastion headstone. That is a name that I wouldn't forget and I'd be happy to show you the cemetery. I live on 6-k ranch outside of Easton and IF ANYONE would like me to take you out to the cemetery I'd so happily. I cleared some brush out of there today, but it is still in really bad shape. A few years back the boy scouts cleaned the cemetery up and it looked really nice. However, I've heard they wern't allowed to come back because they took down some fence of neighboring property.
Anyway feel free to email me if you'd like to go out there.

Sebastian Kessler Sr. is not buried at the Kessler Cemetery, he is buried in the Bowen Cemetery about 10 miles northeast of there. His second wife Scholastika is buried there tho. I have alot of pictures on Find-a-grave, and am working with the Catholic Church to get volunteers to help clean it up. Doesn't really matter who abandoned it, the real problem is what do we do from here. If anyone is interested contact me, Tim Wiedmaier, at timwied@yahoo.com. I've been there several times over the past 10 years, and last weekend was in contact with the Cemetery Board. Seems the Cemetery may have been a private cemetery at one time. I believe this is where "Kessler's Settlement" Church was. There used to be a highway going right along side of it, but when the newer highway to Easton was moved 1/2 mile east of the Cemetery. I cleaned it up for a couple of hours last weekend and took a bunch of pictures. I would like some people from that area to volunteer to go in periodically to cut down the underbrush. I'm looking into Grants and donations for the restoration of it, spray, labor, etc. I talked to the Cemetery board about building a road into it, but we have to be in contact with the farmers that surround it, as there was never an easement to it, since the original road used to go beside it. We have to help out the farmers also to gain access to it, other than walking. Thank you all for your interest, maybe together we CAN do something.

Here is the link to my virtual cemetery for The Old Kessler Cemetery that I'm working on. It has pictures of several of the stones, some are buried in the dirt and debris, and probably I haven't found them all? I have three GGG Grandparents buried there, maybe more. I haven't found one, Theresia Kessler, wife of Joseph Wiedmaier. Maybe someone has an old picture of her stone, if she has one? Also, I've found stones that aren't listed as being buried there. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=vcsr&GSvci...
