Has anyone here visited Jones Cemetery on the corner of Courtney & Atherton Roads in Jackson County? I'd like to see it, but am not sure if it's on private property, and how to get to it.

I realize that this post is 9 months but thought I would answer. The cemetery is not on private land. It is difficult to reach the cemetery as you have to climb a steep hill just west of the railroad tracks on Atherton- Courtney Road. I was there looking through the graves about 2 weeks ago. The cemetery is in dire need of a cleaning as there are fallen trees and much brush growing among the grave sites.

You are adventurous to do that in Feb but probably best before the spring growth. I have never seen it. Have several relative buried there including Ethelbert Davis (my great grandfather) and Sarah Glenn Clack (his sister). I am also suspicious that Ethelbert's youngest child (Joseph Marion Davis born 1867) is also buried there. I only have a birth record for him from his mother's Bible but he does not appear on any census records, etc. I think he may have died at birth or certainly before 1870 and might have been buried in Jones Cemetery since his aunt was buried there in 1860 and his father in 1877. If anyone ever visits there, keep an eye open. I live in Arizona now and can't get back for such an adventure!

Hi, I was just reading your post about this Jones Cemetery. My 3rd great-grandfather is buried here. His name is Josiah Hays. I live in Tennessee but I am from the Kansas City North area. Could you give more specifics on where this cemetery is located? What is the highway name? I have an uncle that lives just off of Winner Rd & I-435 so I am familiar with the area. Thanks

Hi once again, we corresponded in March about this cemetery. I gave your directions to my uncles that live in the Kansas City area. They did go and find the cemetery in May. It had been raining that day so it was a treacherous adventure from what I understand. However, we are getting ready to have a family reunion on Aug 15th. There are several of us that are going to go back out there. Apparently when my uncles were there they only found about 12 graves. My uncle William has asked me to contact you again to see if you might have a better idea of the perimeters of this cemetery. Can you give me an idea of how big it is, how it's set up? Any information that you might remember would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. My email: lambs4lynn@yahoo.com
