Is this cemetery run by The Mich Dept Of Corrections? Where is it located? I understand that is where they bury prisoners that passed away while incarcerated at the former Jackson State Prison. I believe my father is buried there as he died while incarcerated in 1983.

Thank-you for the reply, but this info I already knew.
My problem is that if your coming from the north and you take north down river road, and turn left on Stephan Bridge
rd(The dirt half of the road) you will be headed back north.
And if you go by these directions there is no shaw park road
on the dirt half of Stephan Bridge Road.So my guess is
that maybe they meant to turn right on Stephan Bridge Road
which would be the black top half.(South Stephan Bridge Rd.)
Then turn right on Shaw park rd,but I went down both sides
of Shaw park road all I saw were houses and cabins. But I could try it again. It's very important to me to find this
cemetery my great great great grandparents Peter&Helene Stephan are buried there.
Thank-you
Renee Butka
Grbutka@yahoo.com

I'm not familiar with the area, but using mapquest and google-earth, the original directions were coming from the east. At N. Down River Road E. and Stephan Bridge Road, head south on Stephan Bridge Rd to Shaw Park Rd, turn right heading back west. On your right there are two streets, Rainbow and Edgewater Lane. My best guess, from looking at the arial map, the cemetery is located between Rainbow and Edgewater Lane, more than likely Edgewater. Stephans Cemetery is probably located on private property (in someone's back yard). When you go again, knock on a couple of doors, maybe the residents know of the cemetery. "Take someone with you" I do not recommend knocking on strangers doors alone!

Susan

St Francis Xavier Cemetery in Ecorse Michigan & Some Ecorse Death Record

I was fortunated enought to get access to the death records at Ecorse city hall for a short time to work on the St Francis Xavier cemetery project i have going to record al buried there without marker. Since the Michigan death records up to 1920 are online now I looked from 1921 forward and added about 300 more names to those buried at the cemetery in unmarked graves bringing my list close to 1,500 names. Add the approx. 700 stones in the cemetery and we're close to 2,200 names for the cemetery. I have photos of the certificates of the 300 people from 1921 forward who died in Ecorse. Many familiar names for the area along with parents for some of the people for those looking for marriages there's some information on the certificates. There's also people not from the area i noticed and forgotten. Many infants and children not know about by families doing their trees. I've found quite a few never know siblings for my dad and others in my tree. So if I can be of help let me know. You can write me direct at dalerenaud@wowway.com

In searching, I found that Peleg Hopkins may be buried in the Cornell Cemetery, Wexford Co., Michigan. He is listed as P.C. Hopkins, also buried there is a Willet Hopkins, his son. No dates are shown, but I believe this to be him.

Go to the MIGenWeb and type in Hopkins.

Hope this helps,

Debi

William Ervin Hancock's Burial in Michigan

William Ervin Hancock was born 14 Feb., 1879 in Wayne Co., KY and died in Schoolcraft, Kalamazoo, MI on 18 Dec 1958. His wife was Esther Clementine (Bertram) Hancock Cooper, who died 05 Oct 1967, probably in Clarksville, Ohio. I believe they both may be buried in or near Kalamazoo County, MI. I would appreciate a lookup if anyone has resources to do so, or to hear from a relative/descendant. Thank you in advance! Anna Bertram

Chris:

Still not sure why back in 2007 I asked about Lucy Collins but probably due to having relatives from Berrien Co, Michigan. My Greatgrandmother was Emma Collins...born 1866 in Allegan County. Her parents were Daniel Collins - born about 1831 in Stuebin, NY...he married Sarah E Palmer - born about 1829 Orleans County, NY..in Michigan about 1853. Daniel's parents were - Elijah (May 13, 1799 Tompkins, NY) and a Mary A ? (born about June, 1803 Dutchess, NY) They had at least 11 children that I know of. Eleazer, John, Daniel, William, Harriet, Henrietta, Elijah, Susan A, Lyman, Sarah and Charles H.

I might have been wondering if your Lucy was a cousin of my Collins...since she also ended up in Berrien. But probably not if your Collins came from VA and mine from NY....

Emma Collins married a James B Murdock.

Karen
