I am seeking the death/cemetery information for my ggrandfather, Phillip, Martens. He was 80 years old in 1930 and listed in the Census in Detroit. His wife was 79 years old. Her name was Barbara (nee Daeschlein).

According to their death certificates, both Philip and Barbara are buried in Grandlawn Cemetery in Detroit.

I have information that my above mentioned Great Grandparents were buried in what was called German Evangelical Cemetery, however, I haven't been able to find any such cemetery in Detroit. They died in Jan 29, 1931 and Dec 27, abt. 1924-25 respectively. Any informantion would be most appreciated.

There is a Lutheran Cemetery in Detroit that still exists today. It was called Trinity Lutheran Cemetery but it is now just called Trinity Cemetery. I guess it is no longer owned by Trinity Lutheran Church of Detroit. It is located at 5210 Mt. Elliott Ave, Detroit, MI 48211. Their phone number is 313-921-0286. It is difficult to get info from them as they have never answered any of my letters over the years. I have had to go there myself to do searches. I do know there are alot of Schmidt buried there....in fact, I may have pictures of most of the Schmidt headstones.

German Evangelical Cemetery is not in Detroit. It is located in Barry County, Michigan not far from Battle Creek.

Another possibility as to where your ancestors may be buried is Ann Arbor, MI which is much closer to Detroit than Battle Creek. Years ago, and some people even today, say they are from Detroit, when they in fact are from an area close to Detroit like Ann Arbor.

My guess is there may have been a name change to the cemetery. I mention Ann Arbor because it had a HUGE German population beginning about 1829 and continued for about 100 years.

I just read your reply of Mar. 31, 2008 regarding SCHMIDT headstones that you may have. I know it's been a while, but if you still have them would it be possible to send them to me? Somehow I missed your posting and just found it.
