East Machias Congregational Church

I have just recently found out that my Revolutionary War ancestor was buried in the East Machias Congregational Church cemetery. As I live in Nashville, my chances of tracking him down are slim. Does anyone know if any inscription work has been done in this cemetery? I have checked the internet and have found very few Washington County cemetery inscriptions. I would love to find out for sure if this is where he is buried. Thanks for any help!

DiannaDC - I live in East Machias - If you still are looking for the information, give me his name and I will look for it at the Cemetary.

That would be wonderful!

His name is Tilly How(e), sometimes spelled Tilley. Born 1750 in Massachusetts, died 1813 in East Machias. His wife was Susannah (Puffer) Howe. Tilly's daughter Lucretia married Jacob Crosby. If he is located near family, these names might be helpful? Let me know if there is anything else you need.

Can't thank you enough,
Dianna

Hello Gloria, I know it's been a while, but was wondering if you'd ever had a chance to visit the East Machias cemetery??

Thank you!

Why don't you contact the historical society in Machias or the town office? Maine Old Cemetery Association held a meeting down there a couple of years ago and both were helpful. They have some interesting stones down there. Good luck!
