I am searching for information concerning any persons named Beede being buried in Blue Hill, Surry, and surrounding towns in Hancock County, Maine. I am particularly searching for the graves of Benjamin Beede, Charles N. Beede, George H. Beede, Frederick E. Beede, and Ralph E. Beede. Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

Jean. I have numerous ancestors from the Hancock County area as well and have several books of cemetery surveys from the Hancock County area. When I get home, I'll look up what I can and get back with you.

Jean, What time periods are you looking at? While sitting at my desk, not doing my work (it's kinda quiet today) I have found a couple of Beedes, Ralph and Frederick, with marriage records, in Surry and Blue Hill. Do you have the names of their spouses?

Hi,
I had a day like that yesterday at work. Here's what I have:

1. Charles N. Beede was born in ca. 1843, son of Benjamin N. Beede and Caroline Sarah Bradbury. He was in Marblehead, Essex, MA. in the 1850 and 1860 census, living with his parents. He was living in Surry, Hancock County, Maine by the 1870 census.

2. George H. Beede was born ca. 1867 in Surry, Maine. He married Gertrude Haskell on Jan. 2, 1887 in Surry, Maine. They were living in Surry during the 1870 census. They had sons, Earle E. Beede ( b. July 26, 1889 in Surry ), and Ralph E. Beede ( b. Feb., 1892 in Surry, most likely ). George H. Beede died between the birth of his son in 1892 and the 1900 census when his wife was listed as a widow. She married second Roswell B. Eaton in 1900 after the census was taken. They lived in Blue Hill, Maine in 1900.

In 1880, Charles N. Beede, 38, was living in Surry, Maine, with wife, Mary Jane Lord, 42,and their children: George H.(13...b.c. 1867), Martha S.(11), Frederick E.(7...b.1873 ), Ebice W.(5), and Grace(3). Everyone in the family was listed as being born in Maine.
Frederick E. Beede of Surry married Francis M. Leach of Surry in Surry, Maine on Dec. 29, 1915. Ralph E. Beede of Blue Hill, Hancock, Maine married Teresa C. Foxe of Blue Hill on Oct. 9, 1912 in Blue Hill, Maine. Ralph E. Beede married second Della Cousins, both of Blue Hill on Sept. 15, 1917 in Blue Hill, Maine.
Grace Beede of Surry married Charles A. Smith of Trenton in Surry, Maine on Apr. 1, 1908.
I've probably confused you to no end, but basically, the line of descent goes:

1. Benjamin N. Beede and Caroline Sarah Bradbury.
2. Charles N. Beede and Mary Jane Lord.( Charles worked in a mine in 1880. ).
3. George H. Beede and Gertrude Haskell.
4. Earle E. Beede and Ralph E. Beede, brothers.

I basically have completed this Beede line but this is the only section of the line pertinent to Surry and Blue Hill in Maine. Hope this helps.
Jean.

Surnames: Leach, Beede
Hi there.
I have a little information that might help you with the concern of Frederick E. Beede.........
I see that he married a Francis M. Leach in Surry, Hancock County, Maine........
WELL........
While in the woods today, in Lebanon, Maine........MANY miles south and west of Surry, Maine.......My boyfriend and I came upon some kind of brick rectangle with a concrete slab on the top. The slab was decorated with large chunks of quartz.
There was writing into the concrete on the top of this "box" (grave???) and it said,
"In Memory of Francis M. Beede, Born 1891, Died 1967"
Could this be Frederick Beede's wife from Surry, Maine??
I'm not sure, but if you haven't found their graves in Surry, perhaps you should be looking in the Lebanon, Maine area??? And that would give you some kind of a date for Francis M. Leach Beede, if this is, indeed, the same woman??
Sorry I can't be of more help, but I was trying to find out who Francis Beede was when I found YOUR post on Google.
you can e mail me at gotaspellonyou2@yahoo.com and if I find any more information, I'd be happy to share it with you.

Jean:
I hope you or someone can assist me in identifying either himself or his family: JEREMIAH MAYO, listed hometown as Athens, Somerset County, Maine in 1840. He would have been born sometime between 1805 and 1820. He was serving in the Maine State Armed Civil Posse at Fort Kent in summer 1840, during the Northeastern Boundary Dispute AKA the Aroostook War. I can't find him for 1850 and "hope" he wasn't a casualty but merely went West and missed the census count.
Also have extended family connections to Mayos of Eden, Mt Desert and those buried in Vinewood in Ellsworth-a private cemetery- to anyone who might be researching that area.
