Which Holy Cross Cemetery? The one in Malden or the one in Ware?

In the 351 cities and Towns in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts many cemetery names are found in more than one muicipality.

Call the Catholic Cemetery Association of the Archdiocese of Boston at (781) 322-6300 or email them through their web site:

http://www.ccemetery.org/About/locations.html

They are located in Malden and either hold the records for that cemetery or can tell you which church holds them.

Where were Andrew and Catherine living when they died?

The death of John J Fitzgerald - the Mass Archives has on microfilm BMD index for the years 1915-1970. You could look there for deaths. Then you could email/visit/call the town/city clerk to see death record to find out where he is buried. Mass Vital records is right down the street from the Mass Archives - they have actual records. Staff was very helpful. Research is $9 an hour but sometimes they don't charge if you're there less than that.

Good luck

Yeah, I've used them before, but I was hoping someone here could do a lookup.
Especially if someone were going to be there anyway for their research.

Andrew and Catherine were living in Charlestown. The rest of the family is in Holy Cross so they are either there or in the old St. Francis de Sales cemetary.
(although I kinda doubt that)

I am out of state so I won't be visiting Mass Archives or Mass Vital Records anytime soon. I've looked online and NEVER found John J Fitzgerald for sometime between 1938-1940. Looked and looked and I'm sure he died in Charlestown.

Surnames: Fitzgerald, Blakeley, Kelley
Hello,

I'd just like to offer an FYI which is slightly off-topic for this Board. Last summer I started to research a FITZGERALD family-tree for a close-family friend. Actually, it was for 2 generations of a large FITZGERALD family my husband has been close to for 50 yrs. The older generation grew up in Cambridge, and the younger in Lynn.

I was able to get the ancestors back to John H. FITZGERALD, b~1850, prob. Co. Cork, Ireland, and his wife, Catherine Mary SMITH, b~1852 in Ireland. I don't believe I found out when they arrived in Boston, but they married there ~1880. I believe they only had 2 children, son, Michael, b~1883, and son, John, b~1887. The parents both died during 1890's, and the teens went to live with their aunt, Catherine's sister, in Stoneham. Michael married Ella BLAKELEY of Medford, and they seem to have had a troubled marriage. By the 1920 census, Ella was living with another man. And, she seems to have had at least 6 children, but no one seems to know whether her first 4 children were FITZGERALD's, or just the first 2, sons, Michael, b1909, and John, b1910.

Our friends are descended from John, b1910, and I just found a descendant of Michael. My notes are not organized, and, from memory, I think I found John, b~1887, marrying in Stoneham and having 2 or 3 children. (I have posted about these families on the MA List and the Fitzgerald Board.)

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

P.S. Mrs. Ella (BLAKELEY) (FITZGERALD) KELLEY lived in Cambridge and Somerville with her 2nd husband. And they had at least 2 children. I believe this extended family might be buried in the "Cambridge Cemetery." When the weather is better, I want to visit that office and see if they are buried there. Perhaps the burial records would help to figure out which of her 6-8 children came from which husband. His descendants do not know.

Interesting.....most certainly my Fitzgerald side came from Cork. However I know that Andrew arrived in 1850 possibly with two brothers. (no John) AND his wife was supposedly a Fitzgerald by birth as well. That part yet to be confirmed. I've had some limited success tracing my Irish side. I'm hoping that if I eventually find enough paperwork on these two I'll find a city of origin which will get me back into the Irish records I need.
