St. Mary's Cemetery, Dedham/W.Roxbury

I am currently transcribing St. Mary's Cemetery located on Bussey St just past the W. Roxbury line. This cemetery actually belongs to St. Mary's Church in Dedham. Unfortunately, their records are not very good. Therefore, in conjunction with an old plot plan I found at the Dedham Historical Society and actual transcriptions, I am attempting to come up with as acurate as I can a listing of graves in the cemetery.

If anyone has interest in this cemetery, I would be happy to look for you.

Barbara

Hello Barbara,
I'm delighted to see that you are transcribing the cemetery.
I have been researching the family genealogy and my ex-husband has relatives there. Would you please check for me for the graves of Martin and Noreen Connors with all dates. Also, I believe adjacent to that grave is the grave site of Hegarty--I think there may be three people listed under that name--possibly Norah, Mary Katherine, and ? Michael???. I don't know if any are listed under the name of O'Farrell or not on the Hegarty stone. Would you please ascertain all those names with exact spelling and dates for me as well? Thank you so much!

The only Martin Connors I have is a son to Peter & Mary, died 1884. I have not transcribed the whole cemetery yet. It sounds like you have been there. If you let me know where it is located within the cemetery, I can check it out for you. I work nearby.

I haven't been there in quite some time, but if memory serves me correctly, you take the driveway in, drive toward the back and the road curves to the right. Follow it around that curve and go a short way. The Hegarty and Connors head stones are on the left side of the roadway and I think are next to each other. Thanks for taking the time to check this out for me. I really appreciate it! Our Martin Connors was born in 1913 and died in 1997 and Noreen (O'Farrell) Connors was born in 1907 and died in 1999. Mary Catherine or Katherine Hegarty died in 1962, I think, and she was about 96? I'm not sure about the other 2 Hegarty's--maybe Michael and Norah? and I have no idea about their dates.

OK...I have sent myself a note to try to remember to go there tomorrow...I checked the cemetery map & I think I have found them in plots F23 & F43 which appear to be diagonal from each other.

Thank you SO much for transcribing the stones for me. The names from the stone across the way don't seem familiar, but thanks for the info on that anyway. I've been spelling Hegerty incorrectly, it seems! Now I need to find out how Norah Hegerty ties in to the family! I wish the records from Ireland were a lot better and more readily available than they are. I've made good progress on many fronts this week--it's been a good one. I will be making a trip to Worcester County when the weather improves to do some transcribing in Blackstone at the cemeteries there. I, also, am thinking of heading to the Providence, RI vicinity in the good weather, as well, for the same purpose. If you need anything transcribed from either vicinity, I will gladly return the favor. Let me know. :)

I just took a look at your tree & doesn't Hegerty come from Noreen's side of the family?

Yes. I know Noreen's aunt is Mary Katherine Hegerty. Noreen's mother was Teresa Hegerty. I'm not sure if Norah was their sister. I'll have to try to locate some census records if they're available to see the listing of family members.
Thanks again for your help on this!
