Hugh McCloskey was not one of the founders of the Times-Picayune. It was originally known as The Picayune and its first owners were Francis Lumsden and George Kendall. The paper's name changed to the Daily Picayune until 1914 when it acquired the Times-Democrat and changed to the Times-Picayune.

Ive been visiting this graveyard since the mid 80's arminda faust is my great great great grandmother. Everyone in this graveyard is related to me at least the fenced in area it did go neglected for many years do the simple fact that it became lost to our family in the 80'smid it was surrounded by trees and could not be seen from any road. But with the exception of a small grave off the carport of the newly buolt house there wete no other headstones but 100'shavent of unmarked slave graves on the hill it sits on those have all been lost.

James Delasalle adopted my ggrandfather Edmund Neeley. Edmund was his wife's, Mary Elizabeth, grandson. James owned 166 acres of land in Allen/Beauregard parish area in 1897. He and Mary raised 5 of her grandsons. Edmund, Thomas, John, James, and Charles Neeley. 1880 they lived in Webster Parish. 1900 in Calcasieu Parish, town Oberlin. All in Louisiana. My grandma, Agnes Delasalle Starr Manes, told my James stowed away on a boat when he was 12 and came to America. His family sent his sister to bring him home but he wouldn't go. My grandma didn't really know too much about him. I haven't found where he married anyone before Mary, but I am still looking. If you could fill in any info for me, I would appreciate it.

Go to the burial record page; it will tell you how to check tombstone indexes and from there death and burial records. Hope this helps you in your search. It is a wealth of information for New Orleans searches. K

Dawn, Not sure where you live but Louisiana has Parishes, not counties like all other states. East Ascension is Ascension Parish but described as "East Ascension" because it is on the East side of the Mississippi River. The main city on the East Ascension side is Gonzales, LA. Between Gonzales and Baton Rouge is an area called Prairieville.

Here is a link
http://www.la-cemeteries.com/Maps/Ascension/Pics/Prairievill...

It is located behind the St. John Teh Baptist Church and can be found on Google at

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&amp...

If you do not live close, drop me a line at joey dot niquiporo at shell dot com with your father's info and I will gladly go take a look for you.
I'm looking for any information on Louisa Kernstock Miller and a John Miller. They had numerous children so they would of course be Miller's. Looking to see if there was a family lot or location of burial. We are having a terrible time finding anything on death's of Louisa and John or their children. One child, my husband's grandfather was John Ralph Miller but he died in Louisville, Ky. and cremated there.
Any help would be appreciaed. They were either Catholic or Lutheran.
DonnaM

Caney Creek Cemetery - Bossier Parish

Does anyone on this message board know who owns the property that Caney Creek Cemetery rests on? It is grown up and badly needs clearing and cleaning up on a regular basis. There is an elderly woman that needs access and a way to be driven all the way to the gate of the cemetery from the main road which is estimated at near a mile. She is not able to walk that far and wishes to pay her respects to her grandfather. Here is what the cemetery looked like in February 2012 and is probably more grown up by now.

http://www.laahgp.genealogyvillage.com/Bossierfolder/caneycr...

I do not live close enough to help her with this but am appealing to anyone reading this for help in resolving her problem.
Thank you.

The inforamtion on the Mule`/ Mula is very much of interest to me. I have for a long time tried to track down marriage information on Giovanni Mule` and Margherita Di Rosa they either married in LA. or in Newark New Jersey. They arrived going to Centerville in 1898 and then moved to Neward, and by the 1920 census they had settled in Illinois with their children. Any information that is not to much of a bother would be great.
Thank you in advance..........

Arthur Bizette died 1943 - Where's he buried?

I'm trying to find burial location of Arthur Bizette who died March 8, 1943 in New Orleans. His obituary in the New Orleans paper stated that the remains were taken by car to Baton Rouge.

His obituary in the Baton Rouge paper said that the service would be conducted from the home of his brother, Lawrence Bizette, in New Roads.

Would anyone know where he's buried? I'm not related to the family; I'm just trying to help a gentleman I met at the library.

FYI Arthur Bizette was the son of Francois/Frank and Marie/Mary Bizette. I've seen his middle name listed as Frank (N.O. obituary), Joseph (B.R. obituary), and Felix (WWII draft registration and his daughter's marriage license).

Thanks for any information.

The doors opened for business in September, 1870 and by 1874 was paying a 9% dividend.

Can't say much about the life and times of Mr. McCloskey, just trying to add to your records about his role with the bank.

Louisiana vital records has a Joseph Robert Bouterie who died March 1940(Vol. 214, Page 547). I couldn't find a listing of his obituary. However, 1920 census has him married to Bertha. I did find her obituary:
Virginia Bertha Bouterie died Nov. 29, 1964. She was the wife of the late Joseph Robert Bouterie, stepmother of Verna Broussard, sister of Mrs. Margaret Boudreaux, Mrs. Daisy Laiser, Walter and William LeBlanc and late Mrs. Louise Bourg, Alex and Mark LeBlanc. She was also interred in St. Vincent de Paul #1.
Hope this helps.
