Hello,
An odd question: my relative, David Ardis MacLean, died on August 20, 1929 in New Orleans; he was 44 years old. I have his death record (and his obituary from the Times-Picayune) and both state that David's remains were sent by the 12:30pm train up to St. Louis, Missouri (on August 22, 1929) for cremation.
Why would this be? It appears his remains returned to New Orleans, as I have found a grave for David A. MacLean in the Cypress Grove Cemetery in New Orleans. The grave marker has no birth date, but the correct age (44 years) and a burial (not death) date of February 27, 1930.
Why would David's remains be shipped out of New Orleans to be cremated, but then apparently return to be buried several months later? Why couldn't he be cremated in New Orleans?
If anyone could shed some light on what happened, I would be most appreciative! Thank you kindly,
M
