I am trying to find any details on Hugh McCloskey b 1853 (He was son of John b 1811and Sarah McCloskey of New St, Dungiven, N Ireland). Also of his brother George - all is known that he died of yellow fever, and lastly Johnny McCloskey b 1 Dec1865. He owned several saloons in New Orleans and was murdered when he was hit by a soldier in one of his own saloons.
Hugh's uncle Hugh b 1814 founded the Hibernia bank and the Times - Picayune. Hugh - the nephew tookover the business with his cousin George b1845 d 1888. George was the son of Catherine b1817 and John McCloskey of Main St Dungiven. Their brother Hugh (also born 1853, like his cousin) went on to be a leading figure in New Orleans and was at one time King of the Mardi Gras. Know Hugh had children called Corrine and Harry and believe there were two other females. He died on Aug 1927, aged 74yrs of heart attack. His brother John died on hearing of his death and was buried the following day. Other brothers - Patrick d 1907 was involed in wholesale business, Bernard d 1942 was lawyer and director of the Hibernia Bank, and Joseph d 1936, aged 82.
Would love to get more details on my New Orleans links along with details / pic of their graves.
