Does anyone know the meaning of "MUS'N" listed on a tombstone??

Surnames:
I recently visited the tombstone of our great-great grandfather up in Noblesville, IN. The first thing listed is MUS'N followed by his name. THere are no dates, but that he was in the 39ths IND infantry. I've searched for military abbreviations with no luck. Anyone help??
