Michelle- I just found out my GG Grandfather, Magnus Olsen is buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery in 1920. Is it a very large cemetery? I have been thinking of driving down there ( I live in WI) to visit and hopefully find the grave marker. I was wondering if it would be a day project or if it is really large a couple of days. Or is there someone I could contact to obtain any info about the exact location? I'm just throwing out my questions if you have no idea I understand.

Mt Olive is a bit large to wander around if you are looking for a specific grave. You could look around it for weeks. The office, however, should be able to look up the name for you and tell you the plot info and even give you a map to it. They recently changed their hours so I'd recommend calling ahead to see what the new ones are. (I don't remember offhand.) Their address and phone number are on my web site.

P.S. I have grave photos of some OLSONs buried in Acacia Cemetery on my web site as well. Acacia Cemetery is only about 2 miles away from Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Mount Olive Cemetery is not a Jewish cemetery. Located at 3800 N. Naragansett was opened in the 1880 by Norwegians. Many Scandinavians (Norwegians, Swedes, Danes, and Finn) are buried there. You have only to look to the right as you enter the impressive stone arch to see the landmark Viking water fountain to know the ancestry of the folks buried there.

The Jewish Cemetary, Mount Mayriv, is down the street at 3600 N. Naragansett, another, Rosemont, is around the corner on Addison.

Mount Olive is the largest of the 3 cemeteries.

No - and it's a bit challenging getting information out of the folks there due to 1000's of request I expect they receive. You can find bits and pieces of information on line. I found one on Find a Grave but can't find others. They will search 1 free and charge $10 for each additional.

No, Mount Olive is not indexed before [some time in the 1980s or 1990s - I don't remember exactly]. For any information before that you need to provide the month and year of burial before they will look it up. If you can find out which section your relatives are buried in then you have a chance of finding the graves within a few hours. If you don't know which section to look in then you could be searching for days.
