I just wanted to let you know that there are pictures online for Nita, Arthur and Katie's stones.
Attaching direct links to those,

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=43...

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=57...

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=70...

Will still have to go and take other pictures. If it wouldn't be any trouble, if the farm is still there, could you take pics of that, too? Excited!!!
Ramona

I know you are also looking for Carrie's daughter Effie. There are many Effie's in Memory, so was she a child? I am looking through the online records right now, there isn't an
Effie near her. Do you know if Arthur and Katie may have had a son named Frank who was born and died 1889? He is buried next to them but there isn't a surname.

I am a direct descendant of Wm E Petty through Charles A Petty who was a brother to Mary F Riddle. My sister has done extensive research on this family but has not been an ancestry member. We have some cemetery info on Riddle, Petty,Keran. If you let me know what you are interested in I might be able to help you out or hook you up with my sister. I also noticed that you have a picture on your tree connected with Wm. E Petty. I was interested in what/who it is. We have some pictures of this family. Maybe we could share.

Minden, Iowa family grave

I'm trying to locate a family from Minden, Iowa. My grandfather, Eldred W. Kay was born there & the farm is still there (a potato chip comercial was filmed on it years ago). I'm looking for his father's name & his mother's name. His mom remarried & moved to Chicago but was buried at the Minden cemetary when she died. Her last name was Dorsch (or a variation on that spelling). I know her grave marker is there because when I visited in 1998 I saw it. If anyone has any information about this family I would greatly appreciate it. I don't know much about any of my great gradparents & especially my grandfather's family.

I have sent out 2 inquiries to people who have him listed in their family trees. I gave them the link to this inquiry and hopefully, they will get back to you with the information. If possible, you might want to look at the family trees on Ancestry to determine who is researching your relative, as one of them may have the information you are seeking.

Nan

There is Memorial Lawn on the Northside on Hwy 63, One in town, not sure of the name by a grade school, one in South Ottumwa called Shaul Cemetery. I'm sure there's probably more, but those are 3 large ones that I know about.

Looking for someone who might be able to determine if there is a headstone (per his military burial records) of a John Root (1829-1897). Records indicate he was buried at the BANTA CEMETERY, Wayne County, Iowa, Civil War Burials: Howard Township, Sec. 7-67-21. The cemetery appears to be on Cedar, near County Road S34, just north of the Missouri border, not far from his former homes in Clio, Iowa, and Cleopatra, Missouri.

Please contact me at ronaldroot@comcast.net if you live near there and would be willing to photograph the headstone. Also, I would be curious if his wife, Mary Root, is also buried there. She was born in 1841. They were my great grandparents. --Ron Root

Abraham Long is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, New London, Henry County, Iowa.
Gravestone says Abraham Long was 80 years old when he died. Possibly the father of Samuel Long because buried next to Samuel's daughter, Ruth Eliza Long, and one row from Samuel and his wife.
I'm sure by now you already have this information, but in case you didn't, I wanted to send this on to you.
Have a good day.
Annemarie

I have sent you many replies and I found some family history for you through the Iowa GenWeb Project. I can't give website links here, but I will try. Here is the page that may connect you with your family dating back to Europe. Peter and Rosina are in the family history page along with the children. They lived in Union County, Iowa in 1880 and if you go to the usgenweb dot org and then select Iowa and then select queries, then choose Union County there is a cemetery listing there.

I will put the family page web address here, but will put dots and slashes instead of the actual website. http colon slash slash iagenweb dot org slash union slash families slash Bonar dot html

I hope you can understand that and get to the page. If not, please let me know.

Nan

I found the 1880 census for Rosina A. Sprous.....notice the spelling difference, however household member names were almost the same, some missing. You will see they moved to Iowa and they were in their 50's. They probably stayed in Iowa and Iowa has great records online.

Name: Rosina A.
I found the family in the 1870 census at familysearch dot org It lists all the family members even the parents of the Strouse's along with all their children. At the time of the census, they were in Illinois, that is probably why you cannot find them. Peter was a carpenter and so was his father, who is listed as living in the household. Rosian's sister (possibly) was also living with them at the time. If you want the census page, please contact me and we will work out how to get it to you.

Name: Peter Strouse
Estimated Birth Year: 1828
Gender: Male
Age in 1870: 42y
Color (white, black, mulatto, chinese, Indian): White
Birthplace: Pennsylvania
Home in 1870: Illinois, United States
Household	Gender	Age
Peter Strouse M 42y
Rosina A Strouse F 41y
Mamelia F Strouse F 17y
Jay Strouse M 14y
Arthur Strouse M 13y
Mary R Strouse F 11y
Maranda Strouse F 7y
Jacob E Strouse M 9y
Effie V Strouse F 4y
Idonia Strouse F 11m
Gilbert D Strouse M 71y
Hellen Page F 37y

Re: Looking for Strouse - Morgan Cemetery

You say you can't find anything......it is possible as with many people coming to this country that they changed their last name to another spelling to "hide" their previous nationality or to disassociate themselves from the country the immigrated from. My family did that. They immigrated through Canada into the U.S. and when they got here, the spelling of their last name was changed. I don't know why they decided to do it, but it was published in one of their local papers. So check different spellings of the last name Strouse.... try Strauss, Strause, etc. You obviously know a lot about their background, so you can call the county clerk's office and ask if the name of the possible cemetery was changed or moved and placed under another name. That was also common. And if your relatives died indigent, then it is possible they are in a paupers grave that only the county would have on record. In my travels with my husband we came across many small cemeteries that were way off the beaten path and were small family cemeteries that had not been taken care of for years. You might also be able to call the assessors office or the place where county land records are kept and ask them about any private or family cemeteries. In many States, if property is sold that contains a "cemetery", it is up to the person buying the property to move the cemetery to another location, if they or the previous owners know it is on the property (or they can leave it untouched on the property). The key here is to find out where they were living at the time, their bodies may have been buried on their own property.

I have discovered in one case where a baby was buried in the front yard of the house where she was born and then a rose bush was planted on top of her grave. The gravesite was never marked, but she is there. People did so many things differently back in the 1800's than they do now, so when looking, you must think out of the box. If you haven't checked the LDS dot ORG website, you might check there to find out if any other family member has posted their research. They also provide free census information.

If you know that they were possibly farmers, they may not have owned their own property, but stayed and worked on someone else's property and the census records would show that.

Good luck,
Nan

Hello Arla, Nice to here from you. I don't have anything that says Ben and Mariah were divorced. But I'm sure they were. Ben and Return were friends and Partners in a ranch in NV That they sold. Then all moved to Anoka MN. Near Mariah Father. And Ben's Brother William lived there. William was Married to Mariah sister. I'm not sure if of how I came up with 1872 as the year Return and Mariah were Married. But Ben signed over His property to them in 1874. But Mariah and Hayden didn't have any children till 1878. so 9 years after Hugh was born. And about the time Ben died. So maybe they didn't married till later?? And yes!! I would love to get a copy of your picture of Mariah. Being a daguereotype. She must be younger in it. Then anything I have of her. Take Care

Hi Sam. My name is Arla Locke Lawrence. My gr gr grandfather is also Benjamin Tennison. My gr grandmother is Lena May Tennison b 12 Mar 1862 Anoka MN. So glad to get info about Benjamin's death, as so much online is misleading. However, since Ben and Maria's fifth child, Hugh Ambrose Tennison was born in Iowa in 1869, and she married 2) Return Hayden in Adams Counry,Iowa in 1872, did Ben and Mariah divorce? Did he abandon her? Since their fourth child, Return Hayden Tennison, was born in NV in 1868, was Return with Ben and Mariah in NV? I have a daguereotype of Mariah which I would be glad to share by scanning.

Another one!

Notice the dip in the fence behind the headstone? We were witching in the area and found a grave there, outside of where they were thought to be. Mom said that this was a cemetery before it was officially deeded over to be a cemetery and apparently there were some earlier unmarked ones.

My wife just got the pictures saved to our desktop. I will attempt to attach the pictures to this message. The headstone is covered with lichens and needs to be cleaned. Another interesting thing is I am on the Monroe County Iowa Pioneer Cemetery Association board and one of our members just found some cleaner for lichens on headstones. My Mom is going to check with the cemetery trustees about cleaning several stones.

Let me know if you get the four pictures, if not send me your regular e-mail and I will try that route.

Hello Janet Tennison Hall,
My Name is Sam Bailey. My GG grandfather was Benjamin Tennison. I have the probate Papers for him. It says he died in the Arizona Territory. In 1877 The below I coped form someone else. And don't take any credit. Maybe by now you have seen it before..

3 Nov 1877. A distressing Accident. Mr. William Tennison of Ramsey, this county, is in receipt of a letter from Phoenix, Arizona Territory, conveying the sad intelligence of the death of his brother Benjamin Tennison, at that place, Oct. 7th 1877, by the accidental discharge of a shot gun. Mr. Tennison was engaged in freighting, and was killed by attempting to take his double barrel shot gun out of the wagon. He took hold of the muzzle, pulling it towards him, when the hammer is supposed to have caught against a sack of grain, discharging the weapon, the entire charge entering his side, making a terrible wound. Mr. T. lived only an hour after the accident, but before he died he wrote on a piece of paper these words: "Wm. Tennison, Anoka, Minn.," and this piece of paper was the means of conveying the information of his untimely death to his relatives in this county. He was a brother to William, John and Reuben Tennison of Anoka county. Benjamin Tennison formerly resided at Cedar Creek, on the farm now owned by Mr. P. Tiernay. He left Anoka about two years ago in company with H.J. Gould, and took up his residence in Prescott, A.T. early last spring. At the time of his death he was 48 years old. He left four horses and some other personal property.

Well I've seen you work on the Tennison's you've been much help for me in my search. I also coded alot of info from J.K. Erickson, KelleyConnections. For some reason they didn't like me very well. They got a lot of there info from you. I poster some of that info on ancestry dot com They felt I had know right to do that. I would of really liked to talk to them. They must have been related some how. But they didn't wish to talk. Just wanted me to add a credit for them to my post's so I did as well as added credit to you as a contributor of info. I have his mom and dad as George and Mary Tennison I have no sure name for Mary
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery Anoka Anoka County Minnesota, USA Plot: Blk 59, Lot 2 I don't know if this is corret or not.
Well you take care now.
Thanks
Sam Bailey
