Look-up request for the gravesites of John R. ZACHRY and Sarah Hay ZACHRY. She was born about 1750, in Drysdale Parish, Caroline Co., VA. She died after Aug. 22, 1827, in Walton Co., GA.

Sarah Hay ZACHRY made her will on Aug. 22, 1827 and it was recorded on Mar. 5, 1828 in Walton Co., GA. She was married to John ZACHRY, abt. 1769, Prince Edward Co., VA. John preceeded her in death in Feb. 1813, Kingston, Putnam Co., GA.

Sarah Zachry continued to live on the home place, in Putnam Co., GA; she was living alone on the census of 1820 age over 45, with 17 slaves so apparently still maintaining the plantation. Sometime before Aug of 1827 she left her home in Putnam, moving to Walton where she lived with her daughter, Celia and her family. The Locklins lived in the eastern part of Walton Co, which adjoins the northwestern section of Morgan Co, so Sarah was still not too far away from her family. She made her will 22 Aug 1827; it was recorded 5 Mar 1828, Walton Co, GA (WillBkB:31).

Her will is as follows:
"The last will and testament of Sarah Zachry - In the name of God Amen - I Sarah Zachry of the County of Walton and State of Georgia being of sound mind do make this my last will and testament when it is the will of Almighty God to call me out of time into eternity. I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust from whence it came and to be decently buried at the discretion of my relations and friends and as touching of my worldly affairs which God has been pleased to bless me with in this world by wish is to dispose of it in the following manner - viz - I give unto my daughter Mary Julia wife of Finna Dismukes one dollar to heirs and assigns forever. I also give to my four sons Abner, James, John S. and Jesse Zachry and my daughter Celia Zachry wife of Samuel Locklin and I also give to the heirs of my deceased son Daniel Zachry a proportionable childs part the same as if he was alive - all of my property whatever it may be real and personal to be equally divided amongst my five living children Abner, James, John S., Jesse and Celia and the heirs of my deceased son Daniel as before mentioned giving the heirs of my deceased son Daniel a childs part of all whatever I may be possessed of both real and personal at my death to them their heirs and assigns forever after Samuel Locklin is fully satisfied for his trouble. I do hereby appoint Samuel Locklin Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed by seal this twenty second (22) day of August (1827) one thousand and eight hundred and twenty seven." Sarah signed with her seal and by mark.

The will was signed sealed and acknowledged in the presence of D.H. Griffith, John L. Griffith, James Z. Locklin; it was proved by the three witnesses 3 Mar 1828 with Job Smith CCO and recorded 5 March 1828 (BkB:31).

It is not known where either John or Sarah Zachry are buried; there is no headstone for her in the Locklin Cemetery in Walton; she may have been buried near John.
