How does one get information from Congressional Cemetery, short of going there? They don't answer e-mail, I have difficulty with telephones.
The Washington Post says Calvin Willard NORRIS was buried 19
Sep 1932, wife appears on their page, he does not.

I used to work there years ago as a paid employee/volunteer. When I left, the ones who took the job over were hardly ever there. I used to be there every Saturday for the year I worked/volunteered there (snow, rain, 9/11, etc.).

If you need Congressional Cemetery information, I can give it to you free of charge. Just email me at: bozgen@verizon.net. The only thing on the minds of the Board that runs CC is that it is the major dog-walking park in D.C. which has always been a problem with me. I used to clean up dog crap before all the funerals I took charge of. Most, if not all, board members do not have any family members buried there. I have over 200. If anyone cares about family heritage and respecting the dead they do not. Anyone who lets a dog crap on a family grave is at the bottom of my list.

The former president of the association cares a great deal and took the effort to digitize all of the original records (1809 to 1982). Many original records after 1982 were destroyed because a certain caretaker (Hanley) was pocketing money from plot sales and destroyed the records to cover his tracks. Records were recreated from obituaries and whatever Hanley (the criminal) left behind. I added to these records when I was working there, but mostly from obituaries and inscriptions from tombstones.

Another thing, and I mentioned this years ago to the Board, the casual visitor to the CC office doesn't know that in the safe there are a lot of records that include grave site transfer records that include names and other information for people connected to those buried there. In other words, the person who has "ownership" of the grave at Congressional might not necessarily be buried there which could lead to other cemeteries and even other connections. My favorite volunteer past time at Congressional was connecting genealogists to other families via links from Congressional.

They still do not do genealogy research there.

They were very good to help me. They even e-mailed me a copy of the original papers. I noticed, however, that my relative had the wrong name in their records. My gg grandfather's name was John and they listed him as James.
