This cemetery is just North of Chico (10-15 miles) in Butte County, California. Many of the folks buried here are Pioneers during the Gold Rush era. I did a walk through and noted unusual names and family groups. I hope to completely transcribe this cemetery sometime this year. First I want to see if it has already been done! The original records were lost to fire, so the ledger starts at 1937. Thankfully it appears that most of the early graves were marked.
PLEASE E-MAIL IF YOU RESPOND.

I recall asking Larry V. Richardson about an untimely Overton death, in 1903. Larry found he was buried in Pine Creek. It makes me think that perhaps Larry has a listing for that cemetery.

He can be contacted by mail at 285 Roe Road, Paradise, CA

The Overton lad was killed by a horse at the tender age of 18.

Ron--

I saw your message regarding the Overton boy that was killed by a horse at the age of 18 in Butte Co. CA. I believe this could possibly be my great uncle, Hiram Overton. Our family story has him dying at age 17 by being drug by a horse. The story sounds too close to not be the same person. He was the brother of my grandfather, Garrett Warner Overton. Are you researching this family? Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

This small cemetery in the north part of Butte county is the resting place for many Pioneers. I have the written records and was placing the surnames above, but it stopped at "H". I apparently ran out of room. I will continue in another posting. If you respond to this query, please e-mail, and use the subject line Pine Creek Cemetery.

I can look up some Butte County Overton family information as published in Mansfield's History of Butte County, publihsed in 1918 and reprinted in recent years.

I suggest an email to Donna at sld7546@aol.com as she has done research on this family and could be of more assistance.

I found reference to the incident in a diary written by Alonzo Richardson from 1903-1905. The diary read simply "Irwin Overton killed by horse". The Richardsons were family friends and, I think, may have come out West together.

I suppose there is an article in the Chico newspaper and I think there I saw a probate record listing at the Merriam Library of Chico State University's Special Collections. If you are not in the area, maybe I could look it up for you on my next trip later this year.
