Is there a burial list for this site. I have collected some names for this cemetery, and do not know who to contact.

Thanks,

I do not know. And I do not know who to ask. I have been searching for my great-grandmother Teresa Olivas Vasquez. I searched that cemetery but there are no names on any of the markers. The original markers look like they were 4x4 post now they are small white crosses. You say you have a list of names?

Yes, I have a list of some individuals buried in the Goodyear Cemetery. I pulled the names from death certificates as I was collecting a list for the Sotelo-Heard Cemetery, Cementerio Lindo, and from the Goodyear-Octillo Cemetery (for Pat Florence).

I have been working on the Sotelo-Heard Cemetery project with KJ Schroeder <www.geocities.com/sotelocemetery>;. And KJ brought this cemetery to my attention. I also spoke to a gentleman at Chicano's Por La Causa (?spelling) about the Goodyear Cemeteries. Pat Florence asked me to write down the names I came across for her at the Goodyear cemetery in Chandler. So I also collected the list for the Litchfield Goodyear cemetery while I was at it.

My new project for the Pioneers' Cemetery Assn. is the old county cementery, Cementerio Lindo.

My goal is to compile a "complete" list of burials for these old cemeteries that have no current records or legible headstones, for researchers and family historians. The only records for these cemeteries are old plat maps, obituaries, death certificates, and mortuary records. The state did not keep great records for their old cemeteries. I would like to publish these cemetery burial lists online in hopes that family members of individuals interred at these site will contribute stories, photos, and other records to preserve these final resting places and their place in Arizona history.

If you need any info, please let me know. If I have it I will pass it along to you. Or I can place your contact info in my research folder to contact when I come across more info.

Thanks for your reply,
Tonya

Hello, My name is Carolina and I am writing because my mother who is still alive has one sister and two brothers buried there, Hortencia, Alejandro and Isaac Burruel. My sister now lives in Phoenix so were very interested in going to see if we can find their markers. I understand you have a list of names if you could email it to me I would appreciate it very much. My mother and aunt also gave us directions geographically once we enter the cemetery as to where they were buried.

Carolina,

I do not have a list of names. Try t8217 and grumpy0661 on the message board they might have information. I have been searching for Teresa Olivas de Vasquez born in Soyopa, Sonora. She dead in Tempe 1-12-1924, but I have not been able to find her resting place. I went to the Goodyear Cemetery twice several years ago, but there were no names on the small white crosses I saw. There is housing around the cemetery, today.

Hello Everyone my name is Kathi Soria and I am the Director of Ballet Folklorico Esperanza a non-profit childrens dance group located in Avondale, AZ. Our group has adopted the cemetery as our community service project. A local scout is working one making a map of the graves that are marked for his Eagle Scout Project. Also, you can check with Belen Moreno at 623-932-4316 she grew up in the camps and has a map with several names on it. I have also heard that during the flu pendemic of the early 1900's they did create mass graves at the cemetery.
