Civil War Burial

I'm trying to find out if there is a Sand Ridge, or Sandy Ridge, Alabama cemetery. Also, what county would it be in?
I am working on my Gr-grandfather's Civil War records and he is listed as dying near Sand/Sandy Ridge, Alabama, 24 April, 1865, on a march to Montgomery County. Hi name was Amos Crane, a Union soldier from Ohio.

His papers say he died in a field hospital, but no place of burial is mentioned. I realize he could have possibly been buried in an unmarked or even mass grave during the battle.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

Nancy

Found a Sandy Ridge community in Lowndes county south of
Montgomery. Geograhic Names Information System (GNIS)
has three (3) Sand Ridges: Blount, Shelby and Jefferson
counties. There is a Sand Ridge cemetery in Shelby.

Thank you Jim, I will follow up on your listings. Maybe I can find a Random Act of Kindness person to check the one in Lowndes county for me. I have searched for many years and am trying to finish Amos's page on Find A Grave.
I do have a copy of a letter he wrote before he died, and a picture of him, so thankful for that at least.

There is a Sand Ridge Cemetery in Washington County, AL very near to the MS line. It is located on the Britton Lige Road and is next door to a church of the same name. I hope you have good luck finding your ancester's grave. I believe there is a listing of all cemeteries in one of the historical books covering Washington County. You can probably find this book in the county library.

Thank you for the reply Ann, I have the Pension Record that Amos's wife applied for, and no particular cememtery was listed as his burial place, it just says as you wrote: buried at Sandy Ridge, but it also lists Sand Ridge in other papers.

I will also re-check those addresses you listed in your message again, maybe one of these days a 20 year search can finally end if he's found:)

Hi Joe, thanks for the information, all help is appreciated.
I don't believe my ancestor made it that far North to Cherokee County though. His papers state he died on a march from Mobile to Monggomery, Al. In one of the papers it does say it was close to Greenville though..which is in Butler County I believe.

It's so confusing as his papers state he died in Sand Ridge, and other papers state it as Sandy Ridge.
