Re: Callie Dona Wilson, Leona Busby, William Maurice Busby - Walker or Winston counties Alabama
Yeah, I just came from Old Union Baptist Church + Cemetery which is off Hwy 5 > Poplar Springs Rd > New Oak Grove Rd > Co Rd 37 > Co Rd 70 the way I went and neither Callie Wilson nor Bill Busby are buried here as the lady that took the photo of the tombstones said so.
Sorry, if I sound bitter or ungrateful, but I have been trying to find their graves for over a year honestly. I'm just sad and frustrated. :(
There are no headstones for them at Old Union in Nauvoo/Lynn, but all the research and interviews say they are. I am concerned, however, if their headstones may have been vandalised and the church hasn't put up a little sign or something to say these people are here, but their tombstone is not.
That's terrible if that has happened. I sure would have liked to have taken a photo of them myself because they looked beautiful and tall with their pictures in a glass/ceramic type oval. Big sigh here.
To be honest, on the way there, it looked like they had stripped and reclaimed the land and even around the church. I wonder if maybe blasting destroyed the tombstones? Still, if that happened, I sure wish the church or cemetery would have put up some kind of notice? There were a couple of white stones just sticking up in the ground like unmarked graves.
I know at the Old Pisgah cemetery in Carbon Hill, they have a big white official sign posted on a tree there saying some people's names that their graves were moved and unmarked due to vandalism. I have no idea.
