hi Rachel,
I was referring to Talne/Tulna/Talnoye in the Cherkassy area.
The family sirnames were Rabinovich, Kaliko and Choroshun.
I know of Nachman Rabinovich (gg-granfather) Aron Kaliko (gg-grandfather) Jacob Choroshun (g-grandfather)
There was Anna (Chana gitel) Rabinovitch who married Jacob Choroshun. I do not read the Cyriic alphabet but can read the Hebrew alphabet somewhat. I do work with people who are fluent in the Russian and Moldavian languages.
you can contact me if you prefer at rx1500mg@aol.com Iwould really like to chat with you. thanks for contacting me
Steven

I am looking for Grossman and Gorodetsky family from Uman.
Have had no luck yet with cemetery records from Uman, but am actively researching what is available. I am in contact with the archival offices.

It seems there are death records for only a few years in the nineteenth century. Your best bet for information might be the all-Russia census from 1897.

Uman was very hard hit with the Holocaust and pogroms.

Best,

Rachel

Are you referring to Talne/Talnoye in the Cherkassy area.

I have Polevoy, Gorodetsky, Grossman, and Boutelkov family from there.

Let me know if it is the same place. I have done research and will be doing more. I read Cyrillic, but no Hebrew.

Best,

Rachel

I was wondering if anyone would recognize where these 2 photographs were taken? I have no clue who the people are in the photo's or the location. I did have the tombs translated to English, not sure if it is correct or not....ANY help would be great!

My Ancestors are the Zlotnick's/Slotnick's/Zolotnitzki's/Zolotnitzka's, Zlotnicki's, Zlotnicka's/Zlotnitsky's...etc. I do have my (Erica Hersh's)Family Tree open to the public, if that may help.

My Great Great Grandmother Hodes Sevin Zolotnitzki was born in Stonin, Poland/Russia and I believe her children were born in Horodyszcze(Poland/Russia, I believe it is the Ukraine right now)...

Translations(not sure which are correct, but this helps, a little):

YIVO Institute for Jewish Research:
The tombstones are in Hebrew, not Yiddish. Here's how I read them:
1. Here lies the honest, modest man, lover of knowledge and charity, Yehude son of Mikhoel Faytelevits, who died 23 Shvat 5682 (unsure; that would be February 21, 1922). May he rest in peace.
2. Here lies the honest, modest man, lover of knowledge and charity, Khayim Tsvi son of Yitskhok Leyb, who died 13 Nisan 5682 (April 11, 1922). May he rest in peace.
I hope this helps.
Paul Glasser

Yiddish Book Center
Dear Erica,

We were able to translate the tombstones, which happen to be in Hebrew, not Yiddish.

"Yiddish1": Buried here / Honest and humble, a lover of Torah and khesed [lovingkindness] / Teacher and Rabbi / R' Yehuda bar [son of] Mikhl / Feytelevits / Died on 23 shvat 5682 [21 February 1922] / May his soul be bound in the bundle of life [Traditional inscription; see Samuel I 25:29]

"Yiddish2": "Buried here / Honest and humble, a lover of Torah and khesed [lovingkindness] / Teacher and Rabbi / R' Chaim Zvi bar [son of] Isaac Leib / Zalatnitski / Died on 13 sivan 5682 [9 June 1922] / May his soul be bound in the bundle of life

Zay gezunt,
Yiddish Book Center

Marlene, someone told me that the town is now Kvitneve (Bobrka region). I have been talking to relatives in Kvitneve, the Denegas. I had a film where I saw the Joworska family but now I have to think where I saw it? I believe it was linked to Poland where the Gretkierewicz part of my family was from. Hrycowce. I have always believed the Gretkierewicz and the Denega/Romanow families knew each other or were related in some way but I have not found the connection as yet. Are you a Jaworska?

Please contact this person. She has been a great help in finding my family. vsupadriver@aim.com. My Magyar grandfather came to USA from a village called Kiralyhaza or nearby Verecze (sp) Ugocsa megye 1900+

Kiralyhaza is now Korolevo in Vynohradivskij Raion/District>Zakarpatska Oblast/Region zip 90332-335

Verocze is a small village, today called Veryatsya>also in the Vynohradivskij Raion>Zakarpatska Oblast.

Do you know anyone who can take photos of BILCZE, BILECZ or BIL?? tombstones in cemeteries in the area? Not Jewish. What about pictures of people or homes with BILCZE names? What about searching for relatives?

I had a student from Szeged University visit the area, Said there were tombs bearing this BILCZE name.

Looking for someone who can photograph in Ivano-Frankivs'k

Hello,

I have just located an ancestor buried in the Jewish cemetery in Ivano-Frankivs'k (formerly Stanislawow). I have confirmed this is the correct person by cross-referencing an online inscription database with a death certificate from the State Archives in Poland. I am looking for someone in the area who can photograph the tombstone, and possibly the stones around it.

I can provide a map of the cemetery, as well as directions and section/row/grave information.

Thanks
CHERNOMAZ > CEMETERY IN UMAN, UKRAINE?

I am researching my CHERNOMAZ family from Uman, Ukraine. Has anyone had any luck getting records from the Jewish cemetery there? My husband's grandfather was Mordko Chernomaz, son of Izrul Chernomaz (wife's name Golda Siterman).
Mordko immigrated to Canada in 1913, under the name of Max Chirnomas. He had 3 sisters; Hova, Sura, and Peysa.
