If they served in any of the wars (even as far back as the Revolutionary War), you can get a free military stone for any unmarked grave or seriously damaged/degraded stone. The only thing you have to pay for is to have some one set the stone. I did this for one of my gg-grandfathers as his stone was all but unreadable and it was very satisfying. They were a poor family and most of the family, including his wife, had no markers. So at least he is marked. Since this is an old rural cemetery, there are really no records of just where the rest are buried.
