Hi Ruth still working on John Hugh Henderson.... he married Lydia Christina McPhail after 1938 and they were living at Millers Flat, Otago. Lydia died in 1955 but I don't know where she is buried. I don't know why John chose to be buried in Greymouth maybe he wanted to go back to where he'd come from.
Cheers, Maye

Maye, how wonderful of you to go to sooo much trouble for me. You have found out a lot and that must have taken time so big thx for that. Its weird how my Great Great Grandparents John and Ellen Henderson disappeared from Stafford and there are no records anywhere for deaths and resting. I have found some relatives but they don't know either. The info you have dug up is great. Poor old John Hugh doesn't have a marked grave in Karoro. Think it must have a been a tough life back in the day.

thankyou Maye - greatly appreciated. Ruth

There is a resource I found when searching for Karoro Cemetery transcripts which includes a map and some of the graves marked on the map. For the most part this only includes those in the oldest part of the cemetery, at the Northern end however it has a search function and the grave sites are colour coded, I think by transcribed and un-transcribed. Unfortunately my ancestors are buried in the other sections so it wasn't a useful resource for me but I hope it's helpful for you.

This one also has 359 entries - you can do a search or click on the link next to the search field to browse. Some entries have photographs and genealogical information included.

Surnames: Brown, Maher, McKechnie
Brown, Maher, and McKechnie are all transcribed on the link I have posted on this thread. Just do a search on the surnames - Brookland did not retrieve anything but doesn't mean they aren't interred there...

Each name retrieved has a link which will show a photo of the gravesite and it's location on the map. Good luck!
