Someone just told me that German cemeteries recycle Cemetary plots after 25 years. Is this customary? And what happens to the remains? I had family members that were living in Herrenberg and thought I would see if I could find their burial place that I would find someone to take pictures for me. Does anyone know?

I come to the cemeteries here in Germany: Germany and the other European states don't have the tremendous size like America. Therefore the graves here are not for all eternity, because no place free would be for other deceaseds. I want to point out some things to you:
The "normal" people in Germany get a "grave in a row field" side by side. The time of "possession" of the graves ends in my town after 15 years for example. The tombstones are then fetched by the graves. The field is plowed up and converted to a meadow. This stays 5 years so. Then "new" deceaseds will buried again in this field. However, you also can "buy" a grave. These graves are mostly at the main ways. I had for example also "bought" the grave for my mother on a main way. But maximum for 20 years only. The time then is over. But if the deceased still has other children or other next relatives, they then can new "rent" the grave again. But most of such "near" relatives do not exist also then anymore.
Respectable personalities always keep their grave, and the communes pay the care of the graves then.
