I think his father's name was also Simon and I am trying to find his hometown in Alsace-Lorraine. Did you need any more info on the Niehaus'? I have indication that they came from Opa.

the nanes in France are Muller and Cron. Te Cron would be Christian Cron and Christine Gerber. The muller names are questionable as they have the marks over the U. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

My grandfather was buried here as well. We visited in 1999 with out all the information available today. We got there with my mom and all she had was the original letter from 1945. We found the cemetery and Limey and fortunately there was a caretaker there. As someone else said, they were very friendly once they knew why you were there. He directed us to the Saint-Mihiel American Cemetery nearby. They looked up my grandfather and we hightailed it to the Lorraine Cemetery as we were heading back to Paris that evening. The gentlemen that met us were super nice. That was the first time my mom ever saw where her dad was buried. It was an adventure I'll never forget.

I am trying to locate the graves of some of my ancestors who lived in Mulhause. My great-great grandfather, Simon Studer, died on December 23, 1926 in Mulhause, France. He was from Moosch, France and he was Catholic. His wife Marie Antonise Studer (maiden names: Cordonnier and Bischoff) died October 4, 1930. It is possible that they are buried either in Mulhause or Moosch based on family letters. If anyone has any information about the cemeteries in this area or how to find cemetery records, I would appreciate it!

Someone with local knowledge may be able to help you.

Good luck!

Thank you Lucie!
I'm thiking that any cemeteries in LaRochette would proobably be very old. My great grandmother lost 4 babies within the first year of their life while living in La Rochette at the turn of the century, and I'm wondering how to find out where they would be buried. There were many deaths of young children and babies in those years, and I am surprised that there are no civil documents about burials -- especially since the French records are so well preserved!

Thank you for the information, I will spend some time going through it and seeing if it can help me. I never had any luck with the Fin-A-Grave web site, but it's worth trying again!

Merci,
Lisa

My brother was just there one day ago. He said the people of the Village of Limey are very happy to help once they know why you are there. He sent us a picture of a wheat field where the cemetery was. During the war many of the local people cared for the graves. Below is what my brother sent me:
"The cemetery was 1 km northeast of Noviant-aux-Pres.. (paste into google maps, or google Earth: 48°51'2.34"N 5°53'11.50"E) but they called it the Limey Cemetery... maybe because the soldiers in charge of it were based at a big "house" in Limey. The cemetery is no longer there.. just fields. It was across the road from the WWI French military cemetery."
