I have photographed all headstones of Gamboa cemetery, in Rio de Janeiro. This is the primary cemetery in Rio for non-Brazilian burials. It is only small but burials began in 1811. Willing to help people find their lost links. A couple of examples:
STTMO Midshipman John Banister late of the United States Navy. He was born on 24 February AD 1815 at Osmore in the County of Amelia in the State of Virginia. He entered the service of his country February 1829. He died at Rio de Janeiro 3rd June AD 1835 while attached to the United State sloop of War "Natchez". Another-Beneath this stone rests the remains of Edwin F. Cotterell late steward of the Royal Mail Steam Packet "Tyne" who in the discharge of his duties and in the prime of life, was unfortunately drowned in this harbour on the 11th day of September 1836. Deeply lamented by his relatives and friends. Ours are tears-though few-sincerely shed when oceans shroud and safeguard our dead.

Hi darlieth,

I'm trying to track down the original grave of Thomas Thornton who died 26 March 1876.
He was Captain of a ship and interred somewhere in Rio de Janeiro.

Best regards

Colin

I am searching for the grave of a distant relative, Thomas Keath Gibaud (Bank Manager) who sadly died in Rio de Janeiro 17 May 1899 and his remains were kept at the Gamboa Cemetery, he was 29 years old, I would be very interested if there is a grave for him and perhaps even a picture of it, I am a grt grt grt nephew. There was an article in The Rio News 23 May 1899, I am intrigued?
