hi - just starting my search on a thomas greene (great grandfather)from somewhere in NL - he was born there and I think married there to a Lucy Gladney. I am guessing he was living in NL in the late 1800's and then moved to Winchester, Mass. at some point as his son (my grandfather)was born in Massachusetts in 1907.
If anyone has any information, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Christine Greene
Dartmouth, NS

William Kennedy and his wife Catherine O'Keefe left Newfoundland somewhere between 1882 and 1892. I have no idea where they were, but I've heard their families had lived there about 80 years before they moved to Perth and South Amboy, NJ. I do not know the names of any relatives who stayed on, but I know William Kennedy worked as a carpenter either on ships or on the docks. I also know they had 12 children, for who did not survive childhood and are buried in NF. If anyone visits graves, and sees a Kennedy or an O'Keefe, a photo from a phone would be wonderful. Let me know, and I'll send my number.

Christian CLAUSEN, St Andrews Memorial in Newfoundland

I am looking for information on Christian was born at Bornholm, Denamrk:

He was a sailor and he fell in the first war possibly at sea and according to an old family postcard that the family of his sister, Margrethe CLAUSEN CHRISTOFFERSEN, has there is a memorial erected at St Andrews located in Newfoundland in memory of parishioners who fell in the 1914-1918 Navy, Army. Would appreciate any information anyone can give me to locate this memorial and also to learn more about Christian CLAUSEN. It is believed by the family that Christian sailed all over the world in his profession as a sailor. He may have emigrated from Denmark to Newfoundland, but don't have that information at this time. He had the following siblings:

Andreas CLAUSEN: It is believed by Margrethe's family that he too was a sailor and sailed all over the world like his brother, Christian. This is all I know about Andreas.

Margrethe Marie Hansine CLAUSEN: She married Alfred Christian CHRISTOFFERSEN in 1914 at Bornholm. She died in 1928 on the island of Bornholm, Denmark.

Appreciate any help anyone can give me to find information on the memorial erected at St Andrews and if anyone knows anything about Christian CLAUSEN or anyone else in his family. If he immigrated to Canada I would appreciate hearing how I can get that information too.

Hello Again:
Thanks very much for that link, but I am already very familiar with that site, and I agree it is fantastic. The cemetaries I was inquiring about are found at places in Burin where people no longer live, I was hoping to find someone who may be in the area and would be willing to go to those places and search for Foote burials, transcribe what they could make out on the headstones and possibly take photos.

Hello All:
I am researching my family the Foote's of Burin, and I was wondering if any of you are or will be going to the Burin area to take Tombstone pictures. I am interested in any pictures from the older cemetaries in the Burin area, such as the Step-A-Side cemetary, Pardy's Island cemetary, or the cemetary at Great Burin. Any pictures of Foote burials would be greatly appreciated.I live in B.C. so as you can guess, it is impossible for me to do this myself.
Best Regards, Julie

Saving Graves

Hello,
Saving Graves needs a Newfoundland Coordinator.

We've limped along for a few years with Westerners giving information and representing Newfoundland and Labrador.

We get about 12,000 hits amonth to SG and about 30 of those with questions regarding NF.
Many we direct to NGB and hope for the best, some we struggle to answer with our limited knowledge of your area.

A coordinator is a volunteer position, answering emails, & maintaining the NF page/pages on our website. If you have no web experience, you can simply give us the info you would like to see on the pages and we will put it up.
Some of our Provincial coordinators (but you are not required to do this) hold cemetery workshops on preservation, digitizing, restoration and conduct cemetery walks.

We are a friendly organization that has worldwide offices, & an impeccable reputation....but we need a Maritimer representing the Maritimes!
If you are interested in help us visit our Canadian website http://www.savinggraves-ca.org/
or our Head Office website at http://www.savinggraves.org/

or email me, at national@savinggraves-ca.org
Notes from the Admin

To all who may be reading this, I welcome you. This is a brand new list and board, and like anything else new it may be a little slow in the beginning, but together I hope to share our information and enjoyment of genealogy as it relates to any cemeteries within the province. If you have anything to share, please post it here and let's see what was can get started.

As for me, my father was actually born in the Yukon, but most of my Cann ancestors were all over the maritime provinces with the largest concentrations in Nova Scotia. I have always been fascinated with the history of the area as well, particularly as it relates to genealogy.

This board is "gatewayed" to the list, which simply put means that any post here will automatically got to the list as well, biving you double exposure to your query. If rading this on the list, please use the link provided on the list post to take you to the board, and reply there rather than the list. Doing this will also send your reply not only to the list, but a copy will also be sent by e-mail directly to the original poster.

I look forward to meeting and working with all of you in the future, and sharing our mutual enjoyment of family history. Let's see what we can get started here.

David
List & Board Admin
