Charles Auguste VIAU is a First World War war dead whose burial location is currently unknown. He was born in L’Epiphanie, QC and was residing there when he enlisted. He was single and his religion was RC. His Next of Kin was listed as his mother Wilda VIAU, who was residing at 466 St. Hubert St., Montreal. He served with the Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. He died on 10 October 1918 of TB in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal. The La Presse obituary from 11 October 1918 indicates that the funeral was to have been held on 12 October at the church of l’Ephiphanie, QC after the arrival of his body by train from Montreal, and that he would be buried in the cemetery. This has not been confirmed.

If you have information regarding burial location, please contact the Canadian Agency of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission at cwgc-canada@vac-acc.gc.ca because we are responsible for the commemoration of service men and women who died while serving Commonwealth forces during the First and Second World Wars.

Pte Charles Auguste Viau is one of the missing Canadian soldiers of the Great War that is currently being researched by the Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group. Details of what we have discovered to date can be found here:

http://cefresearch.ca/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=13143

We have identified the parents and sibling but have not found any reference to any burial information for any member of the family.

The DROUIN reports that he was buried in the parish cemetery in L'Épiphanie, Québec. We are now seeking local researchers from the CEGSG (or elsewhere) to check the parish records and the cemetery records. Details are provided in the CEGSG post.

If you have any additional information, please contact the Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group.
