Surnames: Hore
Hi, I am looking to find Richard Hore and Bessie J Hore. From the 1901 Cencus they were living in Devonport with 8 children. Blanche W aged 17 is the eldest child and there is a gap of 7 years beween her sister Lilian L and I wondered whether Bessie J had been married previously and brought Blanche with her to her second marriage. If anyone has any ideas as to Bessie's previous married name and/or maiden surname please let me know.

Many thanks.

Sue

Hi Sue

I did wonder if their marriage was the one in 1900- Bessie Palmer...............BUT they are together on the 1891 with an older daughter called Minnie, whose birth I can't find under Hore.I have found 2nd oldest daughter Lilian in 1890 though.Very odd!

Anyway in 1891 they are at Stoke Dameral.

Richard Hore head 28 Staff Serjeant Artificier Army b St Austell Cornwall

Bessie wife 26 b Devonport
MInnie dau 7 b "
Lilian dau 4 mths b "

I wonder if they married abroad?

Lilians' birth cert would tell you mum's maiden name.

Births Dec 1890

Hore Lilian Louisa registered in Stoke D.ref 5b page 309

Hi Carol

Many thanks for getting back to me. It is very odd indeed! Richard Hore was in Malta at some points in his life because John (I think) was born there and I wonder if Minnie was too but I found John's birth certificate so I think prob Minnie and/or Blanche is/were from a previous marriage. I have been doing the Bessie Macaulay route but this is prob not the right either! I will try the Palmer thing and see what happens.

Sorry but I am new to this and it takes me a while to make connections.

The third daugther Violet Irene Hore (it says J on the census but I think this is just a mistaken letter) is my grandmother on my dad's side BUT again there is a discrepancy as to her date of birth. I think it is 1892 but that doesnt correspond with other documents!!! Its a wonder we can trace anything back really...!

Thanks for the information and if I can help you in any way please let me know.

Best wishes

Sue

Thanks Carol, have just found Bessie Jane Hore's maiden name which is Robins and she married Kenneth MacAuley in 1860 but he died before 1890. They had a child Blanche WS who was born n 1884. Still dont get the Minnie Blanche thing but suppose that will remain a mystery.

If there is anything I cant help you with let me know. Are you researching the Hores?

Best wishes

Sue

I am not related, but just enjoy helping people and doing look ups.

I wonder if Blanche is really Blanche Winifred.

And when they census was done they called her Winnie...and the enumerator Minnie and not Winnie-cos she'd be the right age.

Yep here you go Blanche Winifred !!!

Births Jun 1884

Macaulay Blanche Winifred S in Stoke D. 5b 345

Bessie and Richard married in March 1890 but his entry is not legible so doesn't show on the same page as hers!

Hi Carol,

Fab thats sorted then its not an exact science!!! I have Bessie and richard down as being married in St Austell Cornwall in 1863!!

Can you help me find Thomas Cull's (dob 1893) outward journey to New York I presume he went in late 1919 or 1920 coz he came back in 1921.

Also I cant find a trace of his death in england or scotland.

Your'e a star.
