Is it Worth it?

Hi, I'm new here and am confused!

I have been looking over the different plans and their prices. The "premium" plan is $199 per year. Does it include a Family Tree Maker? Also, is it really worth it? I don't want to join and then not be able to find any info about my family. (You know - like buying a Family Tree program that comes with a bunch of discs but none of them are of a family member).

Do the majority of people here buy the $199 plan?

Also, something that I don't understand - why isn't the Fed Census and other such records already on the Internet for free? There is so much crap online - why not genealogy info? It seems that just when I find a potential relative, I have to pay to view it - even though I'm not sure if that person is a family member.

I went to the Nat'l Archives - I would think info there would be online somewhere - but it looks like you have to go into one of their offices instead. What do you do if you're disabled?

Thanks so much.
