Frustrated with constant upgrade bombardment
Hi. I signed up with Ancestry.com several months ago with just the basic $14.99 / month subscription. Other than building my family tree (which I could do without Ancestry.com) I have been unable to use the subscription. The reason: all the upgrade bombardments. It seems that most everywhere I turn, I end up clicking an option I can't use at my level. It's such a turn-off that I log out and swear I'll cancel before the next cycle. Then I forget and I'm in for another month.
I don't mind having just the basic subscription right now. But it would be nice to just be able to use the subscription without being prompted to upgrade five minutes into a session. It's figuratively like hitting a three-sided brick wall. It literally feels like I'm being spammed.
My next cycle expires at the end of this month. I'm willing to give it another chance, but I need some guidance. What exactly can I do with the basic subscription? Is there a way just to see the options that are available at my subscription level so I don't end up clicking on a bunch of stuff that I can't use without an upgrade?
Any advice is appreciated. Many thanks.

Re: Frustrated with constant upgrade bombardment
In a nutshell, I believe that the basic plan limits you to US records only so no access to any foreign records.

Re: Frustrated with constant upgrade bombardment
I'm not sure what you signed up for. A basic subscription is free and allows you to build a tree use the message board and a few indexes.
The USA subscription allows access to all USA data bases and public trees. If you are paying a fee and are not able to access anything you need to call Ancestry to find out what's going on.

Re: Frustrated with constant upgrade bombardment
You can find out what your subscription covers by clicking onto your user i.d. at the top of the page, then selecting "My Account". That will show you the name of you particular subscription, along with what you can upgrade to naming the Collections you will then have access to. $14.99 sounds like some kind of trial subscription, which won't have access to much of anything anyway, even the monthly subs are somewhere in the $20 - $30 range, and they do have special subs for those doing DNA which also gives them very limited access, but at least if you find out which subscription you have, you will have a better idea of what you have access to.

Re: Frustrated with constant upgrade bombardment
I'm not sure it's still the case that all US records are in basic. I read something recently that made it sound like basic no longer includes the draft registration cards (or perhaps the images?), which are an invaluable tool.

Re: Frustrated with constant upgrade bombardment
I have read in several places, including an answer by an Ancestry moderator on Ancestry's Facebook page, that Ancestry is trying out different levels of membership to some audiences. There are apparently 2 levels of U.S. membership. Sounds like the $14.99/month option is the new lowest level. If you are interested in continuing with all the U.S. records, I suggest you call Ancestry & get it changed.
