I stand corrected on the tree part. I just get a little irritated that a lot of new people think Ancestry is the only way to do Genealogy. It has a lot of great information- I found the Ontario vital records on Ancestry.ca very useful and a lot cheaper than ordering records. That being said, I think if you don't know how to access all of the record sources, including the free ones, you are not doing a thorough job.
