I thought they had taken my ability to do the do the old search away but I found it again.
I don't know if it makes a difference if you go in through the default address or not although that is my bookmark.
I chose "search all records" and found the "old search" all the way to the right. I do not get this choice if I choose the other searches like marriage records or census.

I too was steaming when I felt I had lost the old search option because the new search is so frustrating.
