I've signed up as a free guest. I'm attracted by the ability to build my tree online. Unless I'm mistaken, that part is free with no gotchas. And I can download it later for import to a genealogy software program, right?

As I'm only starting out, and my realitves are not American (they're mostly English), I doubt my research will begin at Ancestory.com, or perhaps I'm mistaken? What I'm getting at is that it doesn't seem I have much to gain by paying for membership here.

Do some of you folks use Ancestry.com just for the online tree part?
