Suggestion: Have child birth show up in birth mother's fact list

Since the birth mother pretty much has to be at the same place as the child when it's born, a Shared Fact between Preferred Birth Mother and Child would be a nice touch. It would also add more detail to the mother's event history and let you spot possible inconsistencies easier (if the mother was listed as being somewhere else when the child was born, for instance, your birth location might be wrong, or the dates of the mother's location might be).

I've done a few people in my tree and manually entered childbirth records, but it's a royal pain to go through and do it for everyone.

Love this idea. It also makes the mother's profile more robust.

This would be a GREAT feature!

YES! I fill it in by hand, too, and it's time consuming for 10+ kids! I fill it in on both the mother's and father's pages.

It appears an expanded version of this suggestion was recently implemented--but not without issues.

It's a nice new feature to have the software automatically compose and insert the fact of a child's birth or death, or the death of a spouse, into the individual tree of both parents in the case of a child, or into the tree of the surviving spouse where applicable.

Based on a quick partial review of my own (Philip Thurman Lancaster, Jr.) family tree I found accurate fact insertions in many cases, but there were several instances where the software inserted incorrect "place" information for the births/deaths of the children/spouses.

And I have not discovered any way to edit any part of the software-generated inserts, including the erroneous information.

I would guess that you'd have to go edit the source of the information if it's wrong there. If it's pulling information incorrectly (ie - it's correct on the child, but wrong when excerpted to the mother) I'd call that a bug and submit it.

I have previously added this by hand on some profiles where the family moved a lot and there was no other way to show where they were or when. I dislike having it automatically added to every profile, when the family stayed in one area (or, when I just don't care).

The place issue seems to be caused by the "improvements" that have been implemented - it's mentioned in several threads now. There really is no excuse for it in the example you give, as it should be drawn from whatever the child's profile says, including any edits/cleanups you did on the child's birth data.

In one of mine where I have a custom Childbirth record added to the mother, I'm specific about where the child was born. The automatically added one just says "Missouri", when it's known which town and county.

I think an ideal situation would be to allow you to change what shows from a Preferences screen. I can imagine not everyone wants as much detail as I do.

The new timeline has the birth of children in the timeline of both parents.

Glad you got your wish...but just as glad that ACOM gave us the individual decision to hide this. They did get something right in New.
