Because it is not at all simple. Evidence-based genealogy is completely specific as to who-what-when-where regarding every individual.

As for TV genealogy, who cares? Just because it's on TV does not mean it is true (or arrived at via supportable research method), any more than anything in a tree is de-facto accurate.
