It's autosomal DNA so the match could be via a female line that wasn't recorded; but when it's a first or second cousin - that should be something fairly recent, I think, yeah. So that's a bit more puzzling.

I have a lot of 5-8th cousin matches, who I have no idea how they match - but then most don't have a linked tree or if they do most are either private or very skimpy. I'm not blaming those people if that's what they want to do. Just saying I'd like to have a filter so I don't see those matches until they do (post a tree).
