Relationship Statistics

Are there any statistics on marriages between related families and how that varies over time? In my case, I know that my grandparents were second-cousins, but they were also what I would call “double second-cousins”, if the term exists, in that they shared two sets of g-grandparents. This happened because at their grandparents generation, a set of siblings married each other. I have to believe that this is unusual, but exactly how unusual?
