Hi my name is Kristen and I just found out about a year or two ago that my Great, Great, Great Grandmother who was Mary Gertrude (Heck) Stegmaier was supposed to be an orphaned Shawnee Indian girl adopted by German immigrant parent's.

Mary Gertrude (Heck) Steamier was born September 16, 184, and she died on March 13, 192. She was born in Hampshire County Virginia, (now West Virginia). She died in Cumberland, Maryland. And if you walk down the street from my Great Aunt and go about five minutes or so you are in Hampshire County, West Virginia.

So I was wondering if there would be a way or a site to see if I could possibly get a adoption record to show that she was really adopted or even Shawnee Indian.
