My father was born, out of wedlock, during 1908 and his birth record is supposed to be at the Ohio Historical Society. On his birth certificate, which I have seen once and then managed to misplace, his name is listed as "James Edgar". His mother was from Germany and even though I don't recall her name I do remember that both first and last started with the letter "G". Okay, do I look in the birth index under "Edgar" or under the letter "G" (to find a woman who gave birth to "James Edgar"? The BIG problem I have discovered during my first two attempts to find his record (I was looking under his adopted name) was that in Franklin County the township births were added where ever there was space and no attempt was made to state where to look for the listing that was continued else where. Therefore I am assuming that since there was a brith certificate then his birth SHOULD be listed in the index.
