I have. I am pretty sure that my maternal grandfather passed away, but the family member that I am intrigued by the most, is my maternal grandmother who I believe to have been his first wife. I think her name was Mary Marsh, but I can't seem to find anything about her anywhere.
The story of her death and the subsequent abandoning of their children afterwards by my grandfather could quite possibly be "urban legend", if you know what I mean. It' a pretty interesting story and it does make me question whether or not she did actually die when my mom was little. I just have no clue how to go about finding the truth about her story and the memories that my mother has shared are pretty painful. I don't really want to share with her the fact that I am searching. I know my mom wasn't born until about 1943, so it may be a matter of just waiting for the 1940 census.
I know that my aunt found a brother(I think his name is Edward or Eddie) many years ago, but he wanted nothing to do with meeting his sisters. It was a pretty traumatic thing for them growing up. I am taking a wild guess but believe he may now live in or has lived in Farmingville, NY. I am too scared to contact him based on the fact that he wasn't very pleased to have been found by my aunt.
If you have any advice on how to find an obituary or anything else with the limited info I have, that would be wonderful!
