My whole life I knew my mother was adopted. She did not know until she was 30 years old. We have one name on the birth certificate, Maria Lombardo (my mother had no name). My mother was born on August, 25 1942 in Cambridge Mass. We have no idea about the circumstances surrounding her adoption. I came on this site to maybe find some information, I found one (very large) family that lived in Framingham in 1940. That Maria Lombardo was 19. While I am not sure this is my maternal grandmother, it does seem to fit the dates and place.
That Maria Lombardo went on to marry a Augusto Giombetti. She had 8 siblings. They (her siblings) had gaggles of children. As I said I am not sure about any of this.
I can imagine in 1942 giving child up for adoption was painful and may even have had a cloud or two surrounding the circumstances. We honestly don't oare. My mother grew up an only child. There is a big gap in our history. We are Italian, but are not catholic, we did not have a big family, there was her and us, her children, that's all.
