My ggrandfather was born Henry Adkins, mother listed as Lissie Adkins on birth cert, father unknown. Story goes that he was given up and I did find him in a 1900 census for Elliott Cty Kentucky, in a poorhouse of sorts. John Hay ran the poorhouse. Henry was adopted by the Watsons, her name was Thursa (or Thurs, or something sounding like that). I think Mr Watson was John but not sure. Henry born about 1895. Story goes that he was a twin, had a brother Roscoe who was kept. Going by dates and a photo Dad used to have, I highly doubt the twin story. Anyone know of info on an Elliott Cty, KY orphanage/poorhouse? Possibly Rowan Cty tossed in as well.
